Pen for Kairi Eguchi Studio
Depending on the material, plastic can turn yellow under the influence of ultraviolet rays. This phenomenon, known as yellowing, was originally frowned upon and regarded as a bad thing for industrial products. This 3D printed ballpoint pen Serpentinata Benjamin, is designed to reinterpret this negative characteristic into a positive one.

Depending on the material, plastic can turn yellow under the influence of ultraviolet rays. This phenomenon, known as “yellowing,” was originally frowned upon and regarded as a bad thing for industrial products. The 3D printed ballpoint pen “Serpentinata Benjamin,” is designed to tackle this new interpretation of plastic. It reinterprets the negative phenomenon of yellowing plastic into a positive one.

All parts of the pen aside from the pen refill all use 3D-printing technology. The newly 3D-printed pens are transparent in color at first, and later turns yellow the more exposed it is. The yellowed pen in the picture takes place six months after use.
This project started at Japan.
The pen will be transparent in color when the user first start using the product. It will then turn yellow the longer you use it, especially when exposed to the sun.
Products such as musical instruments, small leather goods, and wooden furniture that are used by people over a long period of time become their own unique colors. This ballpoint pen will age with the user through long use, and each piece will take on its own personality. This is a special ballpoint pen that contains the pleasure of nurturing for long usage.
