Bark Bark Beer is a premium German brand crafted for the bold. It is offered in three variants, Light (3.5% ABV) in a sleek white can with blue accents, Dark (7.5% ABV) in a black can with red highlights, and Regular (5% ABV) in a vibrant yellow can with red and black accents, balancing boldness and approachability. Production Technology
The design features aluminum cans with matte finishes for a premium tactile feel. Metallic blue accents in the Light variant, red in the Bold variant, and yellow in the Regular variant are applied with a chrome finish, adding a striking shine to the minimal color palette. Vertical wavy lines in bold gray with a pinch of each variant color represent zeal and joy. This blend of textures and finishes emphasizes a modern, high-quality aesthetic, ensuring durability and visual appeal.
Design Challenge
The creative challenge was blending boldness with joy while honoring Bavaria beer heritage. Internally, I balanced historical significance with a modern, playful brand identity using the German Shepherd as a symbol. Socially, I aimed to break the seriousness of traditional beer branding. Externally, production constraints like ensuring matte finishes and chrome accents aligned with available technology, while research relied on limited but focused online insights to craft a unique narrative.
Project Duration
The project started in October 2009 in Jaipur and finished in November 2024 in Jaipur.
Operation Flow
This beer can operates like any standard can, featuring a single pull-tab mechanism. The colored matte aluminum ring tab is designed for easy opening with a simple push-down action, ensuring convenience. Users can drink directly from the can or insert a straw for a more refined experience. The pull-tab design ensures an airtight seal until opened, preserving freshness and carbonation, while the ergonomic tab shape allows effortless interaction.
Research
I conducted self driven exploratory research, analyzing beer brands and identifying a lack of fun in their design. The goal was to create a joyful, bold identity. Inspired by Bavaria, Germany. Known for fine beer and the German Shepherd as a design icon, I chose Bark Bark for its playful appeal. Google insights and German flag colors (black, yellow, and red) influenced the design, blending tradition with a modern flair. The result connects emotionally, setting a new standard in beer branding.
Inspiration
Inspired by Bavaria's untamed spirit, Bark Bark Beer fuses boldness with modern flair. Each variant reflects its unique personality, Light, in a crisp white can with blue accents, offers breezy refreshment. Bold, in sleek black with fiery red, radiates intense character. Regular, in vibrant yellow with red and black, balances flavor for any occasion. Featuring a hand-scripted Crafted font and bold Untamed typeface, Bark Bark Beer is more than a drink. It is an adventure in every can.
Project Overview
Bark Bark Beer Packaging has been a Bronze winner in the Packaging Design award category in the year 2024 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Bronze A' Design Award is given to outstanding designs that showcase a high degree of creativity and practicality. It recognizes the dedication and skill of designers who produce work that stands out for its thoughtful development and innovative use of materials and technology. These designs are acknowledged for their professional execution and potential to influence industry standards positively. Winning this award highlights the designer's ability to blend form and function effectively, offering solutions that enhance people's lives and wellbeing.
