Flora proposes a new relationship between body and object, with open ergonomics that invites reclining, leaning, and free use. Its continuous form removes boundaries between seat, back, and arms, inspired by the blooming of a flower bud. Made from renewable wood and curved plywood, it combines structural lightness, emotional comfort, and sustainability. It offers multiple finish options without losing its organic and sculptural identity, creating a space of intimacy, rest, and presence. It is a piece attuned to everyday life, inviting pause and a more conscious way of inhabiting.

Unique Properties

Production Technology
Flora blends technological precision and artisanal skill. Its solid tauari wood base is sustainably sourced and finely crafted. The curved shell is molded from pressed multilaminates, finished by hand, and upholstered with eco-conscious materials. The roll cushion is crafted with care and offers flexible use. Entirely produced in Brazil, the process honors local furniture tradition with environmental awareness.
Design Challenge
The challenge was to break traditional ergonomics without losing comfort. Flora invites lying down, not just sitting, requiring a study of informal postures and new support criteria. Production was also a challenge, translating free curves into viable molds. Integrating sustainable materials without compromising aesthetics reinforced the project's vision as a new perspective on rest.
Project Duration
The project began in 2020 and was first published in 2021 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Operation Flow
Flora encourages intuitive, sensory interaction, breaking with the frontal use of traditional armchairs. Its curved, asymmetrical shape invites sitting, lying, or leaning freely. The adjustable cushion enhances comfort in various uses. With no mechanisms or adjustments, the piece welcomes spontaneously, promoting a natural flow between body, presence, and rest.
Research
The research aimed to rethink sitting from the perspective of the sensitive, not mechanical, body. Informal postures and daily gestures of rest were observed, leading to an asymmetrical, embracing form. Inspired by a blooming flower, Flora combines user testing, renewable materials, and intuitive design to propose a freer, more emotional, and everyday-connected experience of rest.
Inspiration
Flora was born from the desire to rethink the act of sitting, proposing a free and unstructured rest. Inspired by the shape of a blooming flower bud, its curved shell gently embraces the body. Without rigid divisions, it allows multiple uses, guided by the user's sensibility. More than function, it is a poetic proposal on being in space with affection, freedom, and truth.
Project Overview
Flora Armchair has been a Silver winner in the Furniture Design award category in the year 2025 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Silver A' Design Award celebrates top-tier designs that embody excellence and innovation. This award acknowledges creations that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, reflecting the designer's deep understanding and skill.
