Treated with fluorine free Dwr and bioenzyme softening, it delivers water repellency, stain resistance, soft and skin friendly touch, and antistatic performance. Compliant with Oeko Tex Class 1 standards, it retains over 85 percent of performance even after 50 washes. Lightweight yet protective, and environmentally friendly, the fabric is suitable for both city commuting and outdoor adventures.

Unique Properties

The fabric is designed for people who transition between urban commuting and outdoor expedition. Made from a polyester and spandex blend, the fabric undergoes bioenzyme softening to enhance softness and elasticity. Paired with a biobased PU membrane and hollow yarns, it weighs no more than 180 grams per square meter, with over 10,000 mm hydrostatic pressure resistance and a breathability of over 10,000 grams per square meter per 24 hours.

Production Technology

The fabric undergoes the following process. Recycled fibers are readied. Hollow yarns of 150 denier 48 filaments are woven into 3 to 1 right twill with a warp density of 420 threads per 10 cm, followed by dyeing and finishing processes for colorfastness. A biobased PU membrane is laminated, and dotted soft microfleece lining prevents stiffness. After bioenzyme softening, zinc ion antibacterial infusion, fluorinefree DWR treatment, and antistatic processing, the fabric is completed.

Design Challenge

The challenge was balancing professional protection, exceptional comfort, and sustainability. It uses hollow rPET yarn to reduce weight and enhance insulation. Dense weaving, fluorinefree DWR, and a PU membrane with gradient pore structure offer resistance against moderate to heavy rain and strong winds. The membrane also has high waterproofness and breathability. Paired with recycled materials, biobased coatings, and fluorinefree DWR, an ecofriendly closed loop is created.

Project Duration

Initiated in Hangzhou in April 2025, the project was completed in September 2025 and showcased at Paris Fashion Week in October 2025.

Operation Flow

Touch The microfleece lining is brushed soft, so it feels warm and comfortable. Adaptive Stretch It stretches with the body during cycling uphill or hiking without restraints and quickly returns to its original shape when at rest. Wrinkle Resistance With a Grade 4 antiwrinkle performance, it hangs flat and smooth after washing, saving the need for ironing. Durability After 50 washes, it retains at least 85 percent of its waterproofness and breathability, reducing replacement frequency.

Research

In the postpandemic era, the blend of urban and outdoor lifestyles has become a trend. Young users aged 10 to 18 no longer settle for gear suited to just one scenario. They need versatile clothing that can seamlessly transition from classrooms and afterschool programs to weekend hikes and outdoor adventures. This fabric upgrades windproof, waterproof, and thermal protection, acting as a second skin that shields them from the elements while allowing the body to breathe comfortably.

Inspiration

Minimalist Design Guided by form follows function, the fabric removes unnecessary ornaments and focuses on functional performance. It uses a 3 to 1 twill and a matte finish, creating a professional and understated look. Lotus Effect Inspired by the water repellency of lotus leaves, the fabric is treated with fluorinefree DWR, achieving a Grade 5 water repellency under AATCC 22 testing, so that rain droplets roll off its surface naturally like dewdrops rolling off lotus leaves.

Windshield Softshell Fabric has been a Silver winner in the Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design award category in the year 2025 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
