Poma is a brand of personal care devices. First product is a full-silicone electric toothbrush. Thanks to food-grade silicone, it brings careful yet precise toothbrushing experience. Moreover, silicone bristles absorb less bacteria and extends life of a brush head to incredible 6 months. With a size of 20% smaller than most models available, this toothbrush becomes a universal travel companion for people on the move. Brush comes together with a powerful charging case that extends battery life for another 3 months. Whenever brush is inside of the case – it gets charged.

Production Technology

Wireless charging, 300mah battery in the toothbrush and 1500 mah battery for charging case, sonic motor of 13-15K RPM for the smallest toothbrush body, food grade silicone for toothbrush bristles. Due to its resiliency, non-porous surface and sustainability, food grade silicone is kinda like the Superman of silicones.

Design Challenge

The hardest part was to ensure that PCB and inner electronics would fit into designed model of the toothbrush. Brush body is 20% smaller than most electric toothbrushes available in the market. Our vision was to put sonic motor in the smallest form and we successfully made it.

Project Duration

This project has started in August 2018.

Operation Flow

Toothbrush has just one mode of brushing, what makes it multi purpose device that doesn't harm gums with extra power and provides gentle yet in-depth brushing experience.

Research

This toothbrush was a result of investigations into necessities of people with dynamic lifestyle and my own frequent travelling experience. Moreover, personal interest in premium design and products brought us to understanding that market of electric toothbrushes is still conservative, offers similar design with mostly useless features (like bluetooth or multi-mode motors), while batteries remain weak and charging stations stay bulky. Our findings brought us to understanding of opportunity in disrupting market with new design and charging experience. Totally wireless, more hygienic and eco-friendly. Available as a single purchase or by subscription.

Inspiration

AirPods charging case and all things with wireless charging. I am truly inspired by cord-free life and believe that in the nearest future we will see more and more products with wireless charging. Overall, I was always looking for a toothbrush with extended bristles' durability, better hygiene, shape and easy charging. Given my travel-rich lifestyle, I also needed a travel-friendly toothbrush. With Poma, we are willing to reimagine toothbrushing experience and oral care for those with expectations for premium personal care devices and dynamic lifestyle.

Project Overview

Poma Electric Toothbrush has been a Bronze winner in the Beauty, Personal Care and Cosmetic Products Design award category in the year 2019 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Bronze A' Design Award is given to outstanding designs that showcase a high degree of creativity and practicality. It recognizes the dedication and skill of designers who produce work that stands out for its thoughtful development and innovative use of materials and technology. These designs are acknowledged for their professional execution and potential to influence industry standards positively. Winning this award highlights the designer's ability to blend form and function effectively, offering solutions that enhance people's lives and wellbeing.
