The project was designed to be an ecology-oriented urban public space with an integrated ecosystem. Low Impact Development Strategy was adapted to protect its existing ecological functions and recovered the ecosystem. Various functional spaces are built by the participatory and ground-based design skills for people at different ages. We aim to create a new definition on landscape architecture of urban public space in China and an ideal model of urban public space renovation.

LID Strategy was effectively intervened into the site renovation to make the best use of the site’s original human-land relationship and vegetation relationship. A rain garden is built and the rainwater control is carried out by four levels: decentralized management, vegetation interception and soil infiltration, detention basins and grassed swales, and discharge measures adopt. At the same time, a variety of non-powered safe amusement equipment was designed, in accordance with the scales, materials, interestingness and other elements of friendly children’s play space.
The terrain differences and the destruction of the original ecosystem causing by climatic change are our design challenges. There are different types of terrain with vertical changes at the site, of which the maximum height difference is about 16 meters. There were two low-lying areas in the park, where the vegetation was lodged by the rain slapping and immersed in the stagnant water during the rainy season, and the water level rose by continuous rainfall, and causing the water overflowing.
The project is designed in 2017 and finished in September 2019 in Anshun, Guizhou, China
On the basis of site conditions and sensitivity analyses, there were three construction objectives. Firstly, it adopted Low Impact Development strategies to protect the original ecological function and strength self-evolution capabilities. Secondly, as to cope with local climate changes such as rainy season, adaptive landscape design was applied by paying full respects to the existed vertical resources, vegetation systems, inertial traffic, etc.. At last, it achieved an ideal coexistence mode between human and nature, not only sightseeing, but also a variety of activity functions.
According to the research on the surface runoff and eco-corridor by data models, the potential ecological risks of excavation and embankment work were determined, and the space function combing with geographic and geomorphic conditions were improved. Considering functions, landscaping and security, the water fronts were designed into naturally-planted revetment and water affinity revetment. The former contains grass slope and wetland planting bed, and the latter has wood platform. The design contributes to local climate changes such as rainy season.
