Office for Feng and Chen Partners Design Shanghai
This is a newly established investment company with a small office, with its total area being a little over 300 square meters. Based on the fact that the chairman of the company is a lady with character, They aimed to create an office space that meets the chairman’s temperament, by giving the space the superposition of "a home" and "a gallery". The designers try to use the simplest technique to create a feminine office space that is "gentle and quiet", where people feel easy-going and relaxed, without the sense of stress and urgency.

This is a newly established investment company with a small office scale. The designers hope to design an artistic, elegant and relaxed office environment for clients, breaking the stereotype of investment companies - which typically appear to be too serious - and to design a company that is not like an investment company, one that is friendly, casual and comfortable impression.
Simple, Friendly, Relaxed, Comfortable, Home, Art, Office
The space displays five photographs from the owner's collection, created by Yicheng Feng - an A'Design Award-winning photographer. The concise and modern photographs matches the temperament of this space; the pure and simplistic lamps are made by the Flos; the furnitures are made HAY - comfortable, simple, and homely; the PVC woven carpets are from BOLON - easy to clean and maintain. Since the company's main clients are Japanese, the carpets are specially selected with cherry blossom colors.
Before the design, the client consulted a Feng Shui master, and the sectioning of spaces was already determined. The space was designed under such constraints in such a small area, and must meet the requirements of Feng Shui and the complex functional needs of the client. This was a challenge for the designers, but they were able to meet the requirements through consideration for every centimeter of the space, and used a lightweight design style to cleverly resolve the clutter in the space.
The project is located in Shanghai. Design started in July 2019 and completed in January 2020.
The layout of the space is long and narrow, hence the designers decided to use the central corridor as a chain that connects the left and right sections of the office, as if each room is a key to solve a problem. People that work together more frequently have offices that are closer. The reception area is located in the center of the chain, where one can easily reach any room. An open staff lounge area provides a space for staff to relax, cleverly set up at a fire exit area.
The lease term for the office is only 5 years, and the lease term is relatively short. The client hopes to build this office with less investment. Therefore, the designer uses easy-to-construct materials, and furnitures from inexpensive furniture brands.
Based on the fact that the chairman of the company a lady with character - friendly, low-key, simple, tasteful, and an art collector - the designers aimed to create an office space that meets the chairman's temperament, by giving the space the superposition of "a home" and "a gallery". She has also been friends with the designers for over a decade.
