Lamp for Bruce Tao

Donut Light is a unique household luminary that there is no obvious switch. It has a simplified form and is flexible for adjust brightness. Its switch is integrated into the bulb. Users simply need to put their hand on the donut and push it gently to switch the lamp on and off. At the same time, the brightness is also increased and decreased through this way. The materials in lamp bulb outer layer are linen which build warm and romantic atmosphere.

Unique Properties

This is a desk lamp design with no external switch. It is unique in appearance and function. Its light bulbs are donut shaped. It is a very rare look. As for function, the most different part about it is that it shows no obvious switch. Its switch is integrated into the donut. Users simply need to put their hand on the donut and push it gently to switch the lamp on and off. Users also can use this way to adjust its brightness. That is what makes it unique. This unique design can give the user a better experience.

Production Technology

Desk lamp bulb outer layer uses linen to make a lamp shade. This kind of desk lamp is more applicable in the bedroom, cloth table lampshade is elegant and romantic, can build warm and romantic living atmosphere for the bedroom. The desk lamp light that makes lampshade with cloth is relatively downy, build bedroom atmosphere easily, still can protect our eyesight at the same time, cloth art lampshade is convenient clean change.

Design Challenge

This is an innovative design with a complex internal structure, and the machining qualification rate is the biggest challenge encountered by this project.

Project Duration

The project started in September 2020 in Milan and finished in February 2021 in that place, and was exhibited in China in February 2021.

Operation Flow

First, users connect the donut to a power source. Second, put the hand on the donut and push the bulb clockwise and the lamp will light up. Third, continue to push clockwise to increase the brightness. Last, if you want to lower the brightness or turn off the lamp, push the bulb counterclockwise.

Research

Desk lamp is the product that every family user will buy, have huge market. According to the survey, most lamps are priced below 30 euros. Now the shape of the desk lamp is more fixed. A unique and affordable lamp has great market value. Desk lamp basically is Illumination action, facilitate reading, study, work. As the ceaseless development of desk lamp appearance, modelling, desk lamp has far exceeded the value of desk lamp itself, the desk lamp has become an artwork.

Inspiration

Just like the name, we got this inspiration from the shape of the donut. Donut is a very popular dessert for many people. We think the shape is very suitable as a lamp because of cuteness. When I was eating the donut, I realized it is a circle shape. Meanwhile the adjustment switch of major desk lamp also is circular. So we combined the switch with the donut to create this design.
