Production Technology

The architectural elements, their coatings and finishes, such as the walls, columns and beams were thought to form part of the final aesthetic of his perspective and spatial appreciation. The columns were molded using custom formwork that creates a corrugated appearance. This technique creates a play of shadows and patterns that changes throughout the day and allows the architectural element to be translated into constructive honesty, a key piece for the interior design of the project.

Design Challenge

The biggest challenge for the creation of this house was to related Under the regulations of the complex to comply with a 60% percentage as a sloping roof. The architectural solution took place in the development of a flat-fronted lightweight roof enough so that in its first impression, a scale of human view, it simulates a flat roof. This resulted in the main envelope designed with different light inputs, such as strategic skylights designed for continuous vertical natural light to cover interior areas of the first level.

Project Duration

Villa Antioquia was made in a time of two years from its first presentation to the turnkey. Located in the Yarari tourist development, in Punta Espada Cap Cana, Dominican Republic.

Operation Flow

Native materials of the place, such as natural carved stones combined with wood coverings are combined, large-format marble tiles create a contemporary color palette and textures typical of its tropical Caribbean location.

Research

In the seeking to satisfy the need for a summer residence for a family of 4 members, this villa is composed from its arrival by an extensive cantilever on its facade, taking into account the climatic factors of the Caribbean as it is a cyclonic zone, it composes the architectural element the main elevation fulfilling the function of entrance threshold of the villa.

Inspiration

Villa Antioquia was designed under the idea of continuity of the interior and exterior spaces. The extensive cantilever on its facade makes up the architectural element the main elevation fulfilling the function of the entrance threshold of the house. With architectural elements, such as entry lights, native materials, custom construction techniques, leading architectural pieces in the interior, a new contemporary Caribbean style is developed in contradiction to the conventional proposals.
