Baby Fork and Spoon for Tiny Twinkle
Designed to be visually appealing and highly functional, these Silicone Training Utensils were created as a solution for infants beginning to self feed. Specifically designed with tiny hands in mind, the shape allows for multiple grasping options which encourages use. An integrated choke guard adds additional safety to the design and the silicone material is hypoallergenic and highly durable. The silicone also provides flexibility and resilience, providing a soft, rubber-like texture that is pleasant to touch and gentle on gums. The design is safety tested as it is intended for use by infants.

This design is made of 100% Food Grade Silicone. The material is hypoallergenic and durable, an excellent choice for this product as it is safe for babies. A sample mold was created at the factory so that we could test the product with numerous babies. Slight changes were made after testing and a final mold was cast for mass production.
The challenge was in creating a functional sample design to test with babies. Sample molds needed to be created, adding extra cost and time. Each mold added an additional 30 days minimum. The test sample needed to be created from the actual silicone material to truly test its functionality in the hands of a live baby. Once this was finalized official safety testing could proceed as safety is one of our highest concerns.
The product development started in March 2019. The product was brought to market in February 2020 in Arizona.
This product is designed for tiny hands to hold. It can be held three different ways. 1) the baby can grasp the outside of the body of the utensil 2) the baby can grasp within the hollow center of the body 3) the baby can grasp from the end of the utensil and hold it in their palm. The product design paired with the silicone material makes it a superior product in both use and safety.
The initial research on this product was in studying videos of babies eating. I also spent time in person with my twin nephews watching them eat using various utensils and even their own hands. I wanted this design to feel natural and also to not be limited to being held in only one way. I wanted it to feel like a natural tool the baby would want to use when trying to eat. I researched what was currently on the market and saw that it was lacking in both material and design. I realized both these things would be crucial in producing a successful product.
The inspiration for this product came from my twin nephews. I wanted a better product for them to use when learning to feed themselves. I wanted something that a baby would want to use naturally, something that was more universal, no matter if they were left or right handed. The product also needed to be extremely safe, this was one of the top considerations in the design. The silicone material was a perfect choice to pair with the unique shape. I'm very pleased with the success of this design.
