Public Art for Maolin National Scenic Area Administration, Tourism Bureau, MOTC.
The concentric circle within the Circle, Origin, Source work encompasses the four elements of the totem concept, injecting cultural and living imagery. Through cultural thinking, the blue of the sea, the green of the mountains, and the golden orange of the sun are interwoven in the public area where tribe members and visitors come and go. Those who share the same origin will become future family members and share memories in the ceremony.

This work can be divided into the plaza floor art, the parking lot railing beautification, columns on both sides of the visitor center, and the exterior beautification. These elements are stacked and wrapped around the concentric circle in layers to show the cultural and living belonging. The artist tried to transform the spiritual blessing and encouragement to his works by using dialogue between the space environment and the work as the main idea.

Original stone combined with copper, stainless steel, brick, etc., to create long-lasting works and serve as the basis for setting materials. The bottom layer of PC pavement is then installed with stainless steel and brass as totem patterns on the floor, then inlaid with different elements and colors of stone on the floor to create an intimate visual artwork that brings the community together.
During the development of the work, the culture, traditions, myths, and totems of the entire Rinari tribe and Aboriginal people were used as the starting point. Therefore, it took quite some time to study and refine the totems. It has experienced several challenges and problems in the process, which has overcome one after another to present the complete totem of Circle, Origin, Source.
The project finished in December 2019 in Taiwan.
As for the square in front of the visitor center, many artists and artisans were gathered at the center to the concentric circles, where clan members readjust to each other in the new environment. A festival is also a place to participate in rituals and dances to communicate and open our hearts, evoking the feeling of origin.
In the summer of August 8th, 2009, Taiwan has suffered from a painful memory. Six hundred eighty-one people lost their lives in the storm, and 18 people were unaccounted for. After experiencing the pain and sorrow of being displaced, three different tribes united to build a home in Rinari, Majia Township, Pingtung County. The designers used the culture of the Paiwan tribe to create heart-warming public artworks to help the tribe members understand, support each other and overcome the pain together.
This project, Circle, Origin, Source, takes the meaning of the origin of aboriginal life and speaks of the cultural commonalities among different tribes. The Rinari tribe is located in Majia Township, Pingtung County; the Majia, Haocha, and Dashe tribe relocated here after the Morakot disaster in 2009. The tribesmen experienced the pain of the typhoon disaster and worked hard to rebuild their homes. The work was born within the expectation of accompanying the tribesmen to start a new life and encouraging each other.
