Community Park for Xie Weiqiang

The project is a community park with dual attributes: community service and commemorative green space. Taking Shen Zhaozhou and his music as the theme, it creates ten sceneries, including Maze, Zelkova Path, Malus Spectabilis Path, Musical Fountain Square, Shen Zhaozhou Art Center, Inner Courtyard of Pipa Garden, Zhaozhou Musical Theater, Malus Spectabil is Garden, Chinese Rose Garden and Pipa Sound Wave. With the Art Center placed in the center, the other Chinese-styles courtyards and spaces are orderly organized following Fibonacci spiral and sequence from the south to the north.

Unique Properties

Following the urban texture of Haimen District, the roads in this park are in north-south direction, complemented with orderly arrays of plants. The project applies Fibonacci spiral in the composition of its core area, and takes music as the theme to create ten sceneries. In the center of the park, the Art Center is linked and enclosed by a series of inner courtyards, creating a simple and lively spatial order.

Production Technology

The project has transformed the existing ditches into an ecological dry stream, and adopted the Fibonacci spiral composition to change the flat terrain into a site that is apt to collect rainwater, giving full play to the multiple functions of"sponge city".

Design Challenge

How to integrate the dual functions of the park:"community service"and"commemorative green space" is a challenge of the project. Following to the urban texture of Haimen District, the design has created a public theme park in honor of Chinese musician and Pipa player Shen Zhaozhou (1858-1929).

Operation Flow

The project is a commemorative landscape space promoting the Jianghai culture of Haimen and showcasing the city's cultural identity, which makes it a modern community park with dual attributes. Following to the urban texture, the design has created a public theme park in honor of Chinese musician Shen Zhaozhou (1858-1929). It applies Fibonacci spiral in the composition of the core area, and takes music as the theme to create ten scenes, together with which offering the visitors a music journey.

Research

Equal attention has placed on the ecological preservation and landscape design. A variety of plants are flexibly used for landscaping. The project also gives full play to the multiple functions of the "sponge city" and leverages landscaping approaches to achieve seepage, stagnation, storage, purification, use and drainage of rainwater. Besides, the application of new materials and technologies enable us to achieve an economical and environmental-friendly solutions.

Inspiration

The project is a public green space located in Haimen District, Nantong City. As an a public green space serving the community, it also contributes to shaping the urban culture image. The key issues and challenges of this project are:how to integrate the dual functions of the park"community service"and"commemorative green space", how to incorporate music elements into the park, and how to deal with the relationship between ecology and the garden.
