Production Technology

The minimalistic form of the product and aerodynamic upper part is highly water-resistant, so it can be relied on to be installed in parking lots, parking areas, garages and residential areas. The upper part of the EV charging station is modular, so the number of AC charging ports can be changed from 2 to 4 as required with a power capacity up to 22kW per socket. Continuous connection of chargers one to another with a single cable makes the installation easy and future-proof.

Design Challenge

The main goal was to design an EV charging station, which could be installed anywhere. A product that would look elegant and have a clear understandable user experience. It was challenging to optimise hardware to the essentials, to separate management and control to the cloud and mobile app, while keeping light indication and personnalisation options for the product. From outside this complex solution has clear form and only few visible points for required maintenance.

Project Duration

Technical development of innovative hardware and business model started in Vilnius, Lithuania in 2018. By the year 2020 Desdorp team has joined development design process. By the end of the same year primary prototypes were built. In the middle of 2021 EV charging stations were installed multiple locations of Vilnius and actively used daily up today. In October 2021 EV Charging station was highlighted during the design week in Vilnius and then won the National “Good Design” prize in Lithuania.

Operation Flow

Inbalance cloud control system is designed to react and balance the grid on a national level according to requirements of power providers or grid operators. This solution also let location owners to apply dynamic pricing models or restrict access for different client groups / locations. Light indicators next to the sockets help to understand the charging status quickly and intuitively. Control through the app creates a pleasant and smooth user-experience with a convenient simple payment process.

Research

Dynamic load management is the way of solving the problem of power limitations of electrical grids and buildings. The main innovation is to balance out available power by redistributing it in an intelligent way, based on demand. This electric vehicle station solution is designed for quick, easy and inexpensive installation and extensive customization. If desired, this station may also be connected to different electrical networks with different capacities.

Inspiration

The product design was inspired by different urban environments and modern office buildings, where balance between form, function and material is found. Inbalance EV charging station is unobtrusive and honest. Its’ shape and selection of materials allows it to be perfectly integrated in any type of environment. It fits well into the narrow streets of the old town or city centre and in the environment of new business centres, parking lots or private homes.
