Residential Apartment for Heng G Design
Paying homage to the Buddha’s perfect enlightenment, the guiding lights for this project were calmness, simplicity, and openness. Wood element adorned with three dimensional structures, creating a sense of consistency and depth. The untamed lines that run through every panel of wood can be compared to a fingerprint each one unique from the next, as if handcrafted by Mother Nature herself. The earthy colour palette and materials reveal the elegance that lies in simplicity and brings a timeless character to the space, also blurs the lines between the home and natural environment.

Three elements brass, wood and black flow throughout the entire apartment. Unnecessary partition walls were replaced with furniture and screens, so as to enlarge the living room space, while also differentiating between its various functions. In a departure from tradition, the Buddha hall is both minimalist and monolithic. The aura like glow of the Buddha provides a sense of warmth, gently drawing people into the space. Surrounded by natural elements, from both within and outside, the occupant might feel as though they are bearing witness to the buddha achieving enlightenment under the Bodhi tree all those years ago.

Different textures and tones of the wood reveal the beauty of natural materials and lets the elegance of the stunning spatial layout speak for itself. Meanwhile, the earthy colour palette not only brings a timeless character to the space, but also blurs the lines between the home and natural environment.
This project started in September 2020 and completed in December 2020 in Taichung, Taiwan.
The predominantly wooden interior creates an atmosphere filled with wonder, enchantment and warmth. Consistent use of material creates dimension and depth, with natural wooden texture direction and tone gradient. This continual flow creates frame openings, drawing the occupant attention to the detail found in the interior and its landscape, without being overly-imposing. The large generous open volume is designed to bring out the occupants gregarious nature during the day, while also preparing them for rest in the evening.
The elements of wood, black and brass enhance design styles, so as to create a warm and welcoming interior, and also complement most styles of furniture. It explores the interdependence between the spiritual and material, inside and outside, nature and what we call home.
