Community Chair for Sifang Furniture
Designed in Italy, Mama is a completely recyclable chair made in China. Stackable, easy to connect, available with or without armrests, Mama is a community seating for conferences, training courses, informal meetings, waiting areas and even outdoor activities. The backrest has an original surface characterized by rounded micro-reliefs designed to reduce the supporting area, thus favoring the natural transpiration of the body. The curves and inclination of all elements have been designed to ensure technical performance and ergonomic comfort.

Designed in Italy by Baldanzi & Novelli and made in China by Sifang, Mama is a completely recyclable stackable chair with high technical performance, but which expresses simplicity, lightness and elegance.

It’s made with a monocoque structure in polyamide reinforced with 20 percent glass fiber. The backrest has an original surface characterized by rounded micro reliefs designed to reduce the supporting surface, thus favoring the natural transpiration of the body. The curves and inclination of all surfaces ensure maximum ergonomic comfort. The design of the armrests, as well as that of the structure of the legs and their particular inclination, have been conceived to optimize the vertical stacking of up to 10 chairs; the joint system has also been optimized to connect the seats horizontally both with and without armrests.
Making a chair in a single plastic body has some technical difficulties due to the characteristics that a community chair must have. Calculating thicknesses, comply with all the international rules and standards and keep an attractive design is the real challenge.
The project startet in March 2020 in Ponsacco (PI) and finished in December 2021 in Ponsacco (PI)
Mama has all the characteristics of the community chair: combinable in rows, stackable, with and without armrests.
Analysis of chairs on the market with similar proposals and features. Our intent was to reduce the components to achieve the same goal.
The main source of inspiration was making a lightweight chair in single-piece. The seatback has a surface inspired by the surface of the sea.
Mama Community Chair has been a Silver winner in the Office Furniture Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
