This is candlestick design that can hold common scented candles. A lighted match stick could go along with the gap between the "petals" of the candlestick, and lit the candle. With flame flickering, inverted reflection of the faint light in the candle solution and the subtle fragrance weave together to create a nice atmosphere for leisure and meditation.

Candlestick is not only functional products at home. It should fulfill the basic function of holding candle. But it should also contribute to joyful domestic environment. It is a challenge to design candlesticks that are easy to use as well as elegant. Inspiring by nature, this design shapes candlestick in the elegant shape of tulip. This design also makes the interaction with candlesticks become much easier by creating gaps between petals.
The project started in Oct 2021 and completes in Feb 2022 in Shenzhen, China.
People can interact with this candlestick easily. While lighting it, people can easily put a match through the gaps between the petals. This design makes intuitive interaction, which enriches user experience.
Brief observations were conducted to learn how people use candlesticks in home. Market research was also conducted to learn current solutions.
The design comes from the subtle usage of the tulip metaphor, which represents spring, beauty, and hope in life. This design also makes lighting candlestick much easier. As the scented candles are put in and lit, the faint fragrance is exuded from the flower-shaped candlestick. With beautiful candlelight, it creates beautiful scene, providing us with joyful atmosphere of relaxation and meditation.
Tulip Candlestick has been a Iron winner in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Iron A' Design Award is awarded to good designs that meet the rigorous professional and industrial standards set by the A' Design Awards.
