Urban Space Design for Point Architecture Group

The current site of the project has been a contiguous area of gardens, after street construction and urban development, only small pieces of those gardens remain. The three-cornered garden was created with ideas taken from Iranian gardens and with a coherent design appropriate to the context to be a platform for the integration of landscape elements and a place for the collective presence of people. Various spaces and functions with integrated design in combination with forms familiar to users have created an inclusive, dynamic, lively and active place for all users.

Production Technology

The type of material used in this project is contextual. Red brick has been used the most and in various and creative ways starts from the floor comes on the seats and goes up the wall and forms a coherent and integrated design with the possibility of creative uses. This project including seating and lighting, are completely made in the project workshop with hand-made techniques and appropriate to the location and nature of the project, and no ready-made samples have been purchased which helps to make the project special.

Design Challenge

One of the challenges in this design was the presence of old trees left over from the previous garden. All the trees have been preserved in the new design. Also, lack of irrigation conditions and the provision of water resources to revive the garden and preserve and maintain the trees and new vegetation that have been planted is another. Among the other design challenges, presence of a government employer were the restrictions on the use of special materials and costs. That is why we tried to create a creative and diverse design from local materials at the lowest cost.

Project Duration

The project started in january 2019 in Iran,Shiraz city and finished in september 2019.

Operation Flow

Considering the needs of space users is what has made this project achieve good results. Adhering to design standards, its diverse spaces and functions, along with good landscaping, has created an interactive space. Also, the use of familiar shapes such as old domes and native materials has helped to connect people more with the project. Increasing the level of green space, renewable local materials, using recycled materials and reducing project implementation costs through on-site construction techniques have led to a sustainable project.

Research

Design methods in this intervention based on using Jan Gehl approach from the survey of small urban areas. His research methods based on understanding the primary quality of urban places and feeding this information into architecture is what this project try to practice and improve through implementation. This method is designed to perform actual surveys of public space by human senses mostly through the eyes of the surveyor. This method has been deployed to improve the conditions of public spaces by transforming observations into design.

Inspiration

Reviving the small remaining portion of lost garden was the goal of design and existing trees are the strong point of this space that inspires the path of thinking. Though the space layout and proposed new structure is completely based on the location of the trees. The new look at this piece of land left behind as an urban space and the point of presence prompted the designers to design various spaces for user interaction. Diverse spaces with linear and communal seating in different dimensions and even different heights for all ages to provide a contextual platform for increasing social interactions.
