Residential House for WUUU STUDIO SDN BHD
In their quest to create a seamless and harmonious space, the designer faced the challenge of melding an unbridgeable divide between an exalted and humble ceiling. Their answer was to make the ceiling-height wall the centerpiece of the space, elevating it with a seamless gypsum board protrusion and dressing it with a vivacious hue to accentuate its grandeur. To add an extra layer of intrigue and artistic flair, they suspended a lamp from the high ceiling wall, creating a mesmerizing flow akin to that of a fountain.

Less is more” has always been our design mantra. It makes no difference in this case. Troubled by the co-existence of an extremely high and low ceiling under the same space, the goal is to unify the area by utilising the ceiling-height dimension as the focal point. Besides, the wall protrusion is built seamlessly by a gypsum board for the dimensional impression. Finally, a splash of vivid colour is added to amplify the enormous bare wall and make it a key feature.

Protruding curve console are made out of customize gypsum board in selected fillet angle and manually install by hand, to wall mount and plastered clad seamlessly. General walls and plywood shelves are rendered with plastered skim coat base with clear coat oil. Cupboards are filled with veneer in stained finish and spray paint context with fluted strips.
To unify the concept of dripping fountain and building structure seamlessly and effortlessly with minimal wall rendering touches to void's wall curve hand carved by gypsum board with fluent bended and ceaselessly transited from wall to create a dimensional impression.
The project started in March 2022 in Kuala Lumpur and finished in July 2022
The space has 4 dimensions within ground common area. Foyer has an opening where designer call it a threshold from the divider with the insertion of the refection to unfold the layers of the space. Living space with a minimal background intergrate the water fountain-like tv console that gels its skim coat finish with varies of reflections to interact user's emotions of calmness. In addition, the dripping of cantilever hanging on peddle proportionate the dimension of the space. The pop of orange colour in the cabinet create an element of surprise or contrast between the plain.
The objective of the design is to create a functional design of tv console. The main feature of the design research is to utilise the existing building structure to create a distortion of dimensional impression on the wall with minimalist approach. Direction of the design is to investigate the existing building structure that may be kept or introduce with new elements that bring a sense of harmony. The design concept is inspired by the dripping fountain and with an emphasis on observation method.
Inspired by fountain detail from Fondazione Querini Stampalia Venice, we suspended a lamp from the high ceiling wall to mimic a fountain flow to the protruded curve tv console as a pool of waves.
