Unique Properties

Due to urban air pollution and the COVID-19 pandemic, people have begun to pay attention to the quality of the air they breathe every day. Therefore, how to provide clean air for people, is the advanced issue pursued in the development of this product. TECO has developed a set of cleaning modules that can be integrated above the air conditioner. Besides filtering PM2.5, it is also equipped with UV light which sterilizes and disinfects the air.

Production Technology

In fact, there is no need for an extra power socket to install the TECO Pure UVC Module. With the integrated design of the chip, TECO inserts the function into the air conditioner's motherboard in the form of an expansion chip, and people can easily follow it through the remote control or mobile APP. When the air conditioner starts, it will activate the module as well. With the TECO Pure UVC Module installed at the air inlet, it can filter and sterilize the air at the source of indoor air circulation, continuously providing clean air. As a result, people will be able to achieve the same air purification effect as an air purifier.

Design Challenge

The chemical properties of the material presented great difficulties during the design process of the TECO Pure UVC Module. UVC irradiation causes the plastic shell to become fragile and crack after a long period of time. It was only through numerous experiments that the intensity and angle of UVC irradiation were adjusted, as well as optimizing the composition of the plastic shell, that a stable and long-lasting product was created.

Operation Flow

When talking about air purifiers, it is directly associated with filter consumables that need to be replaced on a regular basis. The TECO Pure UVC Module adopts the technology of electrostatic dust collection to absorb dirt. Therefore, as long as the dust collector is cleaned regularly. Because of the integration of chips, the TECO Pure UVC Module consumes much less power to drive, allowing the same air purification effect as a real air purifier. In addition to effectively reducing the waste of consumables and electricity, it can also reduce the carbon footprint while enhancing the quality of life and creating a healthy environment.

Research

For air conditioners, people mostly stay in control of temperature and humidity and focus less on the treatment of air quality. According to market research, TECO found that consumers' expectations for air quality are increasing every day, so they decided to integrate the air purifier into the air conditioner, which can cut consumer expenditures while filtering air from the beginning. The TECO Pure UVC Module has become a unique design in the industry due to its independent development and the advantages of local production. As of now, no similar product is available for integration into air conditioners in Taiwan.

Inspiration

TECO Pure UVC Module, an air cleaning device attached to the top of the air conditioner, effectively integrates and solves the consumer's demand for healthy air. The device can help purify the internally circulating air environment created by the air conditioner. The UV-C technology on the device can sterilize viruses and acts like an air purifier without needing to be placed on the floor, freeing up consumer space and reducing the risk of tripping.

Project Overview

Teco Pure UVC Module Air Purifier has been a Iron winner in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Products Design award category in the year 2022 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Iron A' Design Award is awarded to good designs that meet the rigorous professional and industrial standards set by the A' Design Awards. This recognition is reserved for works that demonstrate a solid understanding of design principles and show creativity within their execution. Recipients of the Iron A' Design Award are acknowledged for their practical innovations and contributions to their respective fields, providing solutions that improve quality of life and foster positive change.
