Design Challenge

This is the novel biotechnology to create a really glowing flower. This biotechnology is a NOT genetically modified technology. This biotechnology enables orchids to glow in the dark through EU-compliant high-entropy oxides that are absorbed using non-genetically modified leaf veins, which make orchids glow in the designed pattern at night without other light sources.

Project Duration

The glowing orchids are shown in the 2023 Taiwan International Orchid Show on March 4-19 2023 in Tainan, cooperating with the Taiwan Orchid Growers Association and Council of Agriculture (Taiwan).

Operation Flow

This technology enables orchids to glow in the darkness by utilizing the leaf vein absorption of high-entropy oxides, which are in line with EU standards. Glowing orchid displays a starry night at night. Starry glowing orchids make people calm, comfortable, and relaxed, and moreover improve one's mood, such as a sense of accomplishment to reveal a unique experience, referring to a starry night.

Research

Orchids are of various species, colors, and shapes. Orchids are found in almost all ecological environments on earth, except for the cold polar regions or deserts. Its unique flower shape leads to high ornamental value. This biotechnology enables orchids to glow in the dark through EU-compliant high-entropy oxides that are absorbed using non-genetically modified leaf veins. This technology further enables people to communicate with the starry night on glowing orchids in the senses and to feel the beauty and mystery of the glowing orchids in spirits as the starry night.

Inspiration

There is no need to enter the planet Pandora in a virtual movie. Seeing glowing orchids displaying multi-colored luminescence in a dark night as a starry night, one can feel positive emotions in life such as peace, comfort, relaxation, happiness, and fulfillment. When looking at the starry sky among the orchids and counting the twinkling stars, there are countless brilliant dreams in the tiny stars. In the end, the stars are like eternal memories that connect the whole galaxy.
