Hydrogen Powered Trimaran for Macau University of Science and Technology
The Wandering Ark combines a trimaran and an X Bow ship type. It has extremely strong stability to cope with different ocean disasters. The large superstructure provides people with enough living space. It integrates various energy collection methods such as solar energy, wind energy, wave energy, and seawater hydrogen production system. In terms of power, seawater hydrogen production stores hydrogen and converts it into electrical energy through fuel cells to provide power output. The only emissions in the entire process are water, which can achieve zero emissions.

Modeling Extraction: Terraces are a symbol of the symbiosis between man and nature. Combining terrace elements with ship design expresses the concept of respecting nature. This is reflected in the ship’s zero emissions and self-sufficiency. The hierarchy of terraces visually enhances stability, combining traditional aesthetics with modern ship design.
Stability and energy saving factors need to be considered in the design. The hull adopts an innovative shape design that combines X BOW with a trimaran. It has strong wave penetration capability, which is also crucial for reducing energy loss.
This project will be completed at Macau University of Science and Technology from June 2023 to February 2024
Wandering Ark can survive on the ocean for a long time and make full use of resources. Solar, wind and ocean power generation. Seawater is directly obtained through the hydrogen production system, and the generated hydrogen is stored and converted into a fuel cell to power the system. Although the Flettner rotor cannot generate electricity, it can directly assist the propulsion system to save energy consumption.
Use STAR CCM+ simulation software to conduct seakeeping and pressure tests on the trimaran and calculate the best solution under different circumstances to improve the final design.
In response to sea level rise in the future, not only will the land area shrink, but the frequency of marine disasters will also increase. For sea survival mode and floating cities, further exploration and thinking are needed. To solve these problems, it is envisioned to build a mobile city that can be self-sufficient at sea using clean energy and avoid marine disasters. Today, a single new energy source cannot provide a sustainable supply for ships. Future ship energy harvesting technology needs to be studied and ship functions innovated through integrated design.
