The work constructs a stage scene with Oriental cultural elements, combining Chinese folding fans, pipa and engines into a huge spacecraft. The video uses 3D animation, AIGC, and naked eye 3D technology to allow the audience to experience time travel, featuring landscapes, phoenixes, Chinese gardens, Shikumen and Shanghai. In the background of the fashion show, the designer used AI generated giant animations to echo more than 60 models, reflecting the design elements of the clothing. The work integrates virtual and real elements to complement the fashion show.

Unique Properties

The work is from a 30 minute grand fashion show held during the 2023 World Design Capital Conference. The video on stage depicts a large ship that integrates elements of Eastern traditional culture, immersing the audience in a magical space. The design team used 3D animation, naked eye 3D, and AIGC technology to present the video on an 80 meter wide U-shaped screen and a top array screen, dynamically presenting the inspiration elements of fashion designers and performing simultaneously with over 60 pieces of clothing, boldly reconstructing the stage scene.

The primary difficulty of this project lies in the coordination among diverse professions and the manageability of AIGC.

Project Duration

The creativity and production of this project started in Shanghai in July 2023, and after completion, it was performed at the main venue of the World Design Capital Conference in Shanghai in September 2023.

Operation Flow

This multimedia fashion show is performed every autumn in Shanghai, and this is the version of the 2023 World Design Capital Conference. By being invited to watch live, the experience will be very stunning, but it can also be watched online through global live streaming.

Research

This project is a multimedia fashion show that will be one of the main performances during the 2023 World Design Capital Conference. It is the result of collaborative research and creation by teachers and students from various design majors at universities, including visual communication design, digital media art, fashion design, performance, artificial intelligence, music, and dance. The purpose of this work is to reinterpret local culture and showcase the achievements of young designers to the world through integrated performances. The video primarily uses technologies such as Three Dimensional Animation, AIGC, and Naked-eye 3D. This work expresses the imagination of "Eastern fashion" to the world through the reconstruction and interpretation of traditional elements. It emphasizes the balance between inheritance and innovation in digital scenarios. The runway uses a large number of digital art expression methods, integrating digital clothing with natural elements and Eastern cultural elements, and walking through a 270-degree immersive circular giant screen. Being immersed in it is like entering the gate of the fashion metaverse, presenting a style of virtual and real fusion and future retro. The performance reflects the cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary creative state of young designers in Shanghai. This event has helped release over 60 sets of cutting-edge designer works, received coverage from over a dozen media outlets, and conducted global live broadcasts, gaining widespread social attention. We have made positive contributions to promoting emerging fashion forces to a larger stage and attracting industry and market attention.

Inspiration

The stage featured a colossal spacecraft named The Magic Ship of The Orient, which was made up of Chinese fans, Pipa, and engines. The dynamic landscape painting, phoenix, Chinese gardens, Shikumen, and contemporary Shanghai were depicted in a surreal space. The stage background of the fashion show created an astonishing immersive experience, while the giant animations generated by AIGC synchronously echo more than 60 sets of real models.
