The tilted lines of this seating piece emulate trendy shapes that bloomed on the late 1950’s, under the fashion current named “atom punk”. This design and its shapes do not have any square angles, it has great technologically and artistic elements, which combined provide great comfort and support. It is manufactured with high density foam, and it can be customized choosing fabric or leather, and also choosing the wood tone for the base.

Production Technology
The built in base is made with German beech wood, and is assembled with a structure of solid poplar wood using aluminum angular reinforcements. All fit together to allow for maximum strength and timely follow-up to the intended design.
Design Challenge
The design of the manufacturing process, with high-tech machinery took a series of prototypes for maximum performance of the materials and the optimization of process automation. The piece was completely finished by hand in the upholstery, providing a particular character.
Project Duration
This project took 16 weeks from the first sketches to the final prototype for mass production, made in the laboratory and prototype design in Mérida, Yucatán, México.
Operation Flow
The amplitude and ergonomics of the chair allows various types of accommodation for an average person. It can be used as a rest or reading chair. The design provides a very modern architectural style for retro modern spaces.
Research
Laboratory tests and vector engineering studies were necessary to achieve that the angular lines connect in a reliable and durable way. The cushion system took a special study to allow perfect ergonomics.
Inspiration
Inspired by the fashion current “atom punk”, this piece has the noble visage of the Victorian era chairs, while showing the angular and dynamic lines of the 60’s futuristic rockets. The vertices emulate the rear fenders of the 1959 cars, and its structure has no square angles, which gives it a very impressive dynamism that requires being the center of attention in any room.

Cosmic Lounge Chair has been a Iron winner in the Furniture Design award category in the year 2015 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
