The client played twirling around this hill when he was a child. And he was brought up in this area where looking over one of Japanese famous mountains called Tanzawa-san. So the design about the housing plan is that he can feel nostalgic on the site. As a result, it was a bright residential house facing the south with an open garden and he can see the mountains from his room. The yard referred to the original landscape where he grew up. And using traditional construction finishing material it reminds him the old home.

Unique Properties

As a result, it was an elegant residential house facing the south with an open garden. This site has a slope with a front road in the south. It is required special construction that is different from the flat ground because it was a site with a steep slope. First of all, the designer made an underground parking lot which also serves retaining. The parking entrance and square was made 2.5 m higher than the front road. And he designed a wooden house on the underground parking lot.

Production Technology

The designer used materials that Japanese people have valued since ancient times, such as wood, stucco. Also, by the technique of craftsmen who have been supporting traditional Japanese beauty and relaxation in the space.

Design Challenge

This project was planned on a sloping ground in the residential area. The most important matter was how to design and absorb the height difference. The premise had a depth of 40 m and had a height of 10 m. To solve the problem, I carefully thought about approach, external structure plan, retaining as ground underground parking lot of RC structure, and wooden house above the parking. I challenged to adjust its appearance and balance from the road below.

Project Duration

The project started in January 2011 in Machida city, Tokyo, Japan and finished in July 2012.

Operation Flow

It is a resident that makes people feel relaxed and feel comfortable.

Research

Harmonize with architecture and climate. Learn by traditional architecture.

Inspiration

The client played twirling around this hill long ago and grew up in this premises where looking over one of Japanese famous mountains called Tanzawasan. When the designer heard the story, he thought about the housing design that the client can feel nostalgic on the site. That is a wooden house with a large garden and can be settled down to live. The garden referred to the original landscape where the client grew up. And the designer used traditional construction finishing material it reminds the client the home where he lived in a long time ago.
