The old unit over 30 years is designed based on the concept appealing to the life of a single man and a cat. The building materials and furniture respond to the implementation of natural, green energy. First, the three bedrooms are designed into one room with additional open space used as the study area. The open living room design meets the dual needs for work and living, which preserves the broad dimension of space and introduces the beautiful view outside, while providing the most beautiful visual perception by the open lines between regions.
arched ceiling, open partition, decomposition approach, house reform
The building contains multiple beams with impact on height. Therefore the design is embellished by arches for ceiling and facade, which will take off the pressure. The open design for living room, dining room and study room takes into consideration of the owners requirement and precautious personality by interlocking straight lines and arch lines, which addresses his lifestyle of soft and rigid attitude.
The sleeping area and bathroom of the master bedroom adopts the open design to introduce graceful details through arched ceiling in large space, followed by using vermiculite to interpret the firm taste of life. Particularly, the multi-functional air conditioner for heating and dehumidification are treated through two-layer drainage to effectively adjust special humidity with comfortable perception.
The project started in January 2018 and finished in June 2018 in Taipei city, Taiwan.
The design focuses on maximizing the special comfort so that all corners of the living unit can connect each other. The design not only strengthens spatial extension but also builds up the most important core meaning of all planar configuration. The relation of open area is designed with a multi-function study room so it could become the focus of the entire spatial design.
The decomposition approach re-interprets the space by boldly open the partition. The design of door and wall with flexible storage provides the living room, dining room and study room in one. The main wall corresponds to the wall for books, which consists of wood, dual-layer glass and metal pieces as the medium and function shared with the master bedroom. The bottom is a passage for the cat, which is designed for visual and lighting extension and penetration.
Deriving design claims from spatial agility and flexible changes. The fully unfolded and free-flowing movement forms a free planar structures for all partition media to freely develop into the form and relation with more liberating meaning.
