The pavilion was created by an inflatable cloud to create the pavilion, and inside was added artificial fog to increase the feeling of being inside it. The show begins when an orchestra conductor teaches participants a choreography with which they turn their body into a percussion instrument. The sounds generated by the body were associated with phases of the rain that when produced, caused a rain of light inside the cloud. In addition, it was filled with 10 tons of salt on the floor so that the colors of the walls were reflected in it, thus achieving the feeling of actually being inside a cloud.
The creative challenge was how to make a cloud rain thanks to the sound interaction of people. Our team had to investigate methods, sound sensors, tests with gospel choirs, etc ... to understand that the rain has a musicality in different phases.
The project started in February 2019 in Barcelona during Llum Barcelona (Light Festival) 4 hours each night during 3 days. It starts every 15 minutes.
The inflated cloud made of Polyester (flame retardant plus waterproof) with PVC coating, allows the light show not only to be enjoyed inside but also to be contemplated outside with the same intensity. The only difference is that the people inside are interacting with the cloud through the sound of their body, and people outside just listen to noise and are waiting to come in to see what is happening.
How to feel the sensation of being inside a cloud and feel not only the rain but its energy. The objective was to investigate how rain-like sounds can be generated with the body and how the cloud react with them. The methodology was to try different gospel choirs to find the best way to make music with the body. The results were 15,000 visitors in 3 days in Barcelona, leaving more than double in the street without being able to enter the event due to the time constraints, 4 hours a day for 3 days, that allowed us the city council of Barcelona. Sold out tickets.
People used to see the clouds from the ground, but what if we could be inside one? Led by an actor-conductor, the attendees will be moving their bodies, making the sound of the rain that triggers a set of surprising visual effects.
