Residence for Wu Fan
The project is a single family building with its back against the mountain, facing the Yangtze River, China's largest river. The designers used the technique of four dimensional decomposition to create flexible flowing space, and combined with concise and exquisite details to form the characteristics of the interior space. The designers created large lawn and infinity pools to echo the beautiful river landscape under the mountain, perfectly integrating the environment, architecture and people.

In this project, the designer is oriented by the demand of the owners for living environment and combines multiple design techniques to create a living space that is both practical and interesting. The design points mainly include the following four aspects: Firstly, spatial structure: the designers handle the interior space of the four story building through the design technique of four-dimensional decomposition. All public spaces are connected to each other on the plane, there is no clear dividing line. They have integrated functions and transparent visual effect. The adjacent two floors are connected through the patio. The second floor and the first floor are connected through the void area of the interior central part, to form a whole public space that flows naturally in the plane, the upper and lower floors are interrelated, and the interior and exterior are fully integrated. The four bedrooms are placed on the edge of the overall public space, facing the river landscape to ensure privacy and comfort. Secondly, material application: through the meticulous collocation for original color, and texture of the building materials; the combination of transparent and opaque materials, a concise, natural, elegant and bright space atmosphere is created. Thirdly, line organization: almost all planes and facades are composed of pure vertical lines, and are interspersed with each other. A large number of squares and golden section rectangles are used for composition, which is full of fashionable and balanced aesthetic characteristics of neoplasticism. Fourthly, integration of space and nature: all the interior floors face the mountain are equipped with lighting patios, providing natural air circulation and good lighting for the interior. Glass is interwoven in the wall and the ground, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior. The large garden lawn allows people to get close to nature. The infinity swimming pool at the end of the lawn seems to be connected with the river at the foot of the mountain. Through the intimate interaction between interior and exterior, the environmental landscape becomes part of the living space.
The original building is connected to the mountain on one side with poor lighting and ventilation. The floors of the building are connected by elevators and narrow staircases, so interior lighting and communication between floors is a problem that the designers need to solve. The designers add two patios in the adjacent part of the mountain to form air flow and increase the natural lighting. At the same time, part of the floor slabs are removed in the interior of the first floor to form an overall public activity space that runs through the first and second floors, thus establishing good communication between the two floors.
Design Cycle: December 2017 - January 2018 Construction Period: January 2018 - September 2018 Completion Time: September 2018 Project Location: Rongqiao Peninsula, Nanbin Road, Chongqing, China
In order to emphasize the consistency between architecture and landscape, the designers largely used glass exterior wall to allow the lawn in the garden and the infinity pool at the end of the garden integrate with the interior space to create a continuous spatial relationship. More specifically, a tearoom and river-viewing terrace are built next to the swimming pool, visually merging with the river landscape at the foot of the mountain, as if it were floating between the sky and the river.
The application of flowing space design concept; Integration of natural environment and living space; Improvement of indoor natural lighting and ventilation with light patios; Four-dimensional decomposition method are used to deal with space wall surface relationship; Line organization under the principle of neoplasticism.
The core demand of the owner is to build a family environment that helps the family and children grow up healthily, which also becomes the driving force of design. First, the designers creates the best use comfort for functional spaces such as bedrooms and bathrooms. At the same time, the designers apply the design concept of flowing space and eliminate the closedness of the space to create a lively and interesting family atmosphere.
