Residential Interior Design for RIS Interior Design
Inspired by Gaston Bachelard's work, "The Poetics of Space", this project apartment presents poise and stable forms, imbued with refined and well-rounded visualizations, through conflicting and dramatic approaches of interior design. Remembrance of the vintage is seen from the emerald marble and iconic floral decorative glass details, fusing with contemporary touches, such as cement finishing and rebar table base. In the meanwhile, to comply with upcoming sustainable trends, reducing construction phases, applying residual and up-cycling materials are considered and ultimately fulfilled.

Nowadays, there are waves of protest toward ostentatious interior decoration which argue with its unnecessary functions and surplus pollution during the construction. However, to restore the remembrance of the vintage, and to fuse with contemporary aesthetics, multiple material combinations are inevitable. Reducing construction phases and reusing residual material are considered and ultimately fulfilled.
Sustainable Material, Reuse of Residues, Cement Topcoat, Wallpaper, Oxidized Brass, Rebar
The coarse-textured cement finishing on beams and ceiling, derives from a patent up-cycling topcoat, Lotos, which is made from the up-cycling residues and sediments of local reservoirs; whereas, the red brick wall keep its mortar and masonry intact. Botanic-print wallpapers replace traditional painting, which avoids sewage and occurring wasted by-products during painting construction. The oxidized brass paneling is intentionally without chemical polishing, and sustains both luster and haptic feels. Moreover, the emerald marble and iconic floral patterns on decorative glasses indicate a touch of indigenous connection.
The flooring patterns at the living areas are integrated with wasted stone slabs and wood planks, and ultimately combine with tiling. The alignment of each material on flooring becomes crucial and arduous.
Started from October 2019 and finished in July 2020. Taichung city, Taiwan
The wide open-concept living area encompasses the sofa, piano, audio devices, and dining section, bar station, without cluttered feelings. The en-suite master bedroom and adjoining rooms are alongside the lateral layout.
Confronting new and upcoming sustainable trends, further studies for new material durability and accurate application are required in this project. Furthermore, how to minimize contamination toward existing construction methods is considered as well.
The primitive feeling of home is like a nest. This notion derives from the quote: "I found a nest in the skeleton of the ivy; A soft nest of country moss and dream herb." by French Philosopher, Gaston Bachelard, in his work <The Poetics of Space>. Inspired by the previously mentioned, this project apartment tended to present poise and stable forms, imbued with refined and well-rounded visualizations, through conflicting and dramatic approaches of interior design.
