The Z Shaped Creation
Residential Building for Vassiliades Architects
The inspiration that triggered the design of this bioclimatic house, was the creation of a white Z shaped form, which characterizes its morphology, whilst it serves as a passive sun protection system. The spaces were translated in volumes and placed into the cavities of this white form and the design is moved by simple geometries and materials. The house exploits the environmental conditions, which led into proper natural ventilation and lighting, combined with high performance active systems, led to energy savings, and achieved thermal comfort for the users.

Unique Properties
A bioclimatic house in Fasoula, where the creation of a white Z shaped form, characterizes the morphology of the building. The spaces were translated in volumes which created a composition that was placed into the cavities of this white form. The design is moved by simple geometries touching the modern minimalistic trends, which led to the use of exposed concrete, large wooden surfaces and the use of the neutral white color.

Design Challenge
The integration of bioclimatic methods into the development of the design, combined with the need of an operational building, was the main creative challenge of our design.
Project Duration
The design started in 2017, and the construction in 2019. The project was completed in 2020.
Operation Flow
A minimalistic three-level house, placed in a slope, with the parking spaces made in the earth, as a basement. This was built with stone masonry, willing to highlight the relationship between the building and the environment and to create a solid morphological base for the development of the design, which is moved by simple geometries touching the modern minimalist trends.
Research
Through our design, we wanted to investigate whether the integration of bioclimatic methods into the development of the design, could result a harmonious, functional composition.
Inspiration
The inspiration that triggered the design of this bioclimatic solar house in Fasoula, Cyprus, was the will to create a white Z shaped form, that was going to characterize the morphology of the building.
