Visualized Mathematical App for Donghua University
It is a visualized mathematical function application (VMFA) for young students. Parametric design is adopted in the VMFA to make math symbols simply. It is represented in interesting parametrical shapes that can be printed by 3D printer. After adjusting mathematical parameters, mathematical functions can be easier understood by students. Meanwhile, it enriches the meaning of interaction. Gamification is to increase students' interests of learning mathematical functions. It's really a funny solution for the young generation to get knowledge.

This is a visualized mathematical function application, which using parametric method in application to make the boring math symbols to be interesting parametrical shapes. The properties are as follows. 1.Users can adjust mathematical parameters to understand mathematical functions. 2.Visualizing mathematical functions can increase your interest in learning. 3.Gamification fostered an interest in learning the logic of mathematical functions.
Parametric Interaction, Mathematical Function, Application Interface, Positive Experience
In the perspective of method, this design adopts the positive design method to think about how to improve students' pleasure in learning mathematics through the design thinking. The author selects the parametric method to visualize the abstract function. In the perspective of technology, this design is an Internet app, which used Java and XML for programming, Adobe Illustrator for visual interface design, Figma for interaction design, and 3D printer for function visualization of ABS material etc. This work realizes the interaction with students through the pad, computer and mobile phone.
1. Build a parameterized interaction design guided by users' positive experience; 2. Built-in system construction, program operation vulnerabilities need to be constantly improved; 3. The user experience of the interface needs to be constantly optimized. 4. How much the final works improving the positive experience of users?
The project started in March 2020 in Shanghai and finished in December 2020 in Shanghai, and was exhibited in Shanghai in January 2021.
1. This is an APP that can learn functions by adjusting function unknowns and controlling function image changes. 2. There are four areas of categories on the interface: Point, Curve, Weave, and Result. 3. Two approaches: (a) selecting the equation in the categories, (b) entering the equation by yourself. 4. The shapes of functional curve are changed via entering the parameters of X, Y, N, and Z in the equation. Then, the final shape will be shown on the screen. 5. After you enter or select the different parameters and equations, you will get amazing parametrized shapes, and then it can be printed by 3D printer.
Background: Learning mathematics is a big challenge for some young students all over the world. Methods:1. Based on the general parametric design process and the positive experience design, a parametric product design hypothesis model based on positive experience is proposed. 2. On the basis of the design method model, the design practice is developed. Result: A visualized mathematical function application has been designed. Impacts:We put out a new way for students, through the interaction and application of mathematical functions and images, the interest and efficiency of participants in learning mathematical knowledge can be improved.
Learning mathematics is a big challenge for some young students all over the world. why? 1. Math symbols are boring! 2. Be confused by the logic! Why not change students' cognition through design to make it easy for them to learn mathematics.
