Electric Radiator for Caos S.r.l.
Made entirely of aluminum, Coral radiators were designed with a Form Finding approach that, using parametric modeling, allows the search for new geometric expressions. The goal was to define radiating elements with an extremely extended perimeter, to generate a high thermal output and propose a distinctive aesthetic. Coral electric radiators can be controlled with the dedicated management app that allows to set times and days of ignition, heating speed and temperature. Coral, an example of how the evolution of man through technology is resolved in the forms of nature.

High-performance electric radiators, made entirely of aluminum, can be controlled with the management app which allows you to set times and days of ignition, heating speed and temperature. Coral radiators have been designed using a "Form Finding" approach, which, by exploiting parametric modeling, allows the search for new geometric expressions. Coral's innovative characters are: Use of generative parametric software, Operation management via app, Single material product, High percentage of recyclability, Wide palette of finishes.

8mm thick aluminum sheet, shaped with laser cutting, subsequent processing by CNC milling machine for the electric heating system. Use of parametric software AAD (Algorithms-Aided Design) for design generation.
The challenge was to "design" the algorithm to generate the radiator shape. Since we were focused on the goal of defining the longest perimeter, but without neglecting the aesthetics of the product, we carefully calibrated the parameters to generate the final shape, a balance between function and aesthetics.
The project started in April 2020 in Rome and finished in December 2020 in Prato.
Coral is programmable via a dedicated app, which allows you to set times and days of ignition, heating speed and temperature. The particular shape generated with AAD software, allows optimal heat distribution over the entire surface and optimizes the heat diffusion capacity in the room. The high thickness of the aluminum sheet determines a greater maintenance of the reached temperature.
A live physics simulator was used to generate the constant growth of a closed curve while maintaining its continuity. The goal was to define elements with an extremely extended perimeter, to generate a high thermal output and propose a distinctive aesthetic.
Inspired by the research of generative systems applications, the Coral radiators are proposed as a meeting point between design and nature within our homes. As in corals that weld sediments together and give rise to ever longer branches, a live physics simulator was used to generate the constant growth of a closed curve while maintaining its continuity. The goal was to define elements with an extremely extended perimeter, to generate a high thermal output and propose a distinctive aesthetic. Coral, an example of how the evolution of man through technology is resolved in the forms of nature.
