The Covid pandemic accelerated the demand for relax chairs as more professionals and students required both privacy and comfort shifting from on-site work/school locations to home-work/study mobile locations. According to the 2020 consensus teleworking more than a third of the households with median incomes of $65,100/yr. teleworked (doubled from the previous year). For those in a higher income bracket of $200,000/yr. the percentage who converted to teleworking was even higher, 73.1%. As teleworking increased, so was the demand on the networks, satellites, digital communications. This directly affected on how home furniture was used as a "substitute" for work furniture. Kitchen tables and chairs were not the most ergonomic solution to replace work desks and chairs. Background clutter and noise distracted the transmitting message and messenger. An ergonomic and auditory shield would not only protect the seater from distractions, but also create an enhanced radar like focus. The curvilinear shape and concave form inspired on radars, satellites and telecommunication technology inspired the shape of the frame. A 360 degree rotating swivel mechanism would enable the seaters to literally shift their perspective away from distractions. A tilt mechanism embedded in the seat and activated on the right hand side lever would provide a repose (to induce those power naps, scientifically proven to enhance concentration) as well as accommodate natural movement of the body to prevent muscular-skeletal stress. Naturally a footrest was designed as added as an accessory to relieve blood stagnation in the legs.
Satellites and radars, a global necessity for the modern age on their ability to transmit and receive signals for intelligence gathering. Their stealthy design determines the maximum range of vision, their accuracy of locating and their ability to distinguish and detect targets. We incorporated elements of satellites and radars to create a vividly attractive relax chair to send strong non-verbal signals of confidence, intelligence and elegance.
