Rotator is a wireless charger and a Bluetooth speaker, that can be rotated as a mobile phone holder. It has two charging methods: one is flat charging, and the other is rotated at an angle of 60 degrees with the ground as a mobile phone stand charging. Two support bars can also be used to adjust the volume of the speaker and the brightness of the phone's screen.

Production Technology

This design is shaped by CNC machining technology and metal 3D printing technology. It's mainly composed of luminum case, wireless quick charging coil, wireless charging chip and acrylic panel.

Design Challenge

The challenge of the design is the innovative method of this phone charger.The technology and idea of this design was found. Still, it was not sure how to integrate each function of phone holder, charger and speaker. After a certain number of sketching and discussing about the project, finally, the proper selections which achieve the desired effect was found.

Project Duration

The project started in January 2021 in LAFA Industrial Design Studio and finished in December 2021 in National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Industrial Design in LAFA.

Operation Flow

Rotator has three functions: basic phone holder function, wireless charging function and Bluetooth speaker function.People can charge their phones while playing music or watching videos without worrying about losing power, and on top of that, they can adjust volume or brightness via two support sticks. ROTAOR can be adjusted to two angles to place the phone, one is 180° and the other is 60°. The 60° is suitable for people sitting down to watch a video, and the 180° is suitable for people conveniently placing the phone to charge. The design shows the application of ergonomics.

Research

In a fast-paced modern society where people are often doing more than one thing at a time, it used to be difficult to place a phone on a holder to browse the Web or watch videos while it was charging. If the phone can be placed in a charging phone holder, it will undoubtedly save users a lot of time. Meanwhile, the Bluetooth speaker feature can reduce anxiety by allowing users to play music without worrying about battery drain.

Inspiration

Existing phone holders are often lacking in functionality, only folding or charging. I want to maximize the functions of the mobile phone holder, and realize the combination of mobile phone holder, bluetooth speaker, charging, screen brightness and sound control , so as to provide maximum convenience for users.

Project Overview

Rotator Multifunctional Mobile Phone Holder has been a Iron winner in the Digital and Electronic Device Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Iron A' Design Award is awarded to good designs that meet the rigorous professional and industrial standards set by the A' Design Awards. This recognition is reserved for works that demonstrate a solid understanding of design principles and show creativity within their execution. Recipients of the Iron A' Design Award are acknowledged for their practical innovations and contributions to their respective fields, providing solutions that improve quality of life and foster positive change.
