YiQi Hanzi flashcards use design thinking and drawing to make the characters understandable to everyone to spread Chinese culture and the beauty of Chinese characters. The flashcards design also incorporates technology. The QR code on each card takes users to the YiQi Hanzi online learning center to expand the learning resources for each character. The whole experience design makes it easy for people to learn and memorize characters.

Design Challenge
The history and development are lost in the time. Sometimes there is no reference to a character that can be used. I need to think creatively about how to use visuals to form the characters in a way that makes the most sense.
Project Duration
The project started in April 2020 and finished in January 2021 in San Francisco.
Operation Flow
There are 140 cards, print double-sided, so a total of 280 characters. Besides the physical flashcards, the QR code on each card connects to the YiQi Hanzi Online Learning Center with more learning resources. Includes words, sentences, videos, writing strokes, and more to help people learn characters easily and holistically.
Research
Every character creation is based on research on the history of the character. To reference how a character was created at the beginning, what's the revolution it experienced, how Simplified Chinese changed the forms, and if there are any stories behind a character.
Inspiration
To people who don't know Chinese, Chinese characters always look like complicated drawings. I want to use design thinking and drawings to make the 'character drawings' understandable to everyone to spread Chinese culture and the beauty of Chinese characters. This learning method makes it easy for people to visualize the meaning of the characters to better understand and memorize characters.
Project Overview
YiQi Hanzi Teaching Cards has been a Silver winner in the Education, Teaching Aid and Training Content Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Silver A' Design Award celebrates top-tier designs that embody excellence and innovation. This award acknowledges creations that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, reflecting the designer's deep understanding and skill. Silver A' Design Award recipients are recognized for their contribution to raising industry standards and advancing the practice of design. Their work often incorporates original innovations and elicits a strong emotional response, making a notable impact on the improvement of everyday life.
