Residential Building for Maand Architects
This project redefines the morphology of a residential building with two bevels on both sides to improve the quality of life and prevent the repetition of similar and neighboring buildings. Tried to create a dynamic view by cutting parts of the bevels and creating full and empty spaces in the play of light and shadow and despite similar plans, define an independent identity for the units and the building by creating a different view and perspective, and transform the elevation to in between space, to form different narratives of the flow of life inside the building.

According to urban planning rules, buildings whose neighbors have observed the bevel in the elevation are required to observe this rule in the elevation. The gap created between the buildings by the bevels distorts the connection between the buildings as if the building has no desire to be close to its neighbors. This project redefines the morphology of a residential building with bevels on both sides to prevent repetition of similar adjacent buildings.
Architecture, Building, Structure, Residential, Elevation, 12th
By cutting the some parts of the bevel surfaces and turning them into flat surfaces, the two-part (terrace and kitchen window) division of each unit in the elevation, was transformed into three parts (window, terrace, kitchen window), In addition to the variety in the facade, closed spaces behind the outer wall Facade, to be formed after open and semi-open spaces and part of the life of the residents of each unit flows to the elevation .Due to the impossibility of openings in similar buildings ,the bevel surfaces remained unprocessed, became dynamic facades in this project.
Neighbors of the project, in addition to complying with the bevel in the elevation (according to urban planning criteria), were simple buildings with uniform openings that had life behind them. Restrictions on bevel facades and mandatory stairwells and elevators due to the provision of parking, led the project to be similar to them. Turning the weakness of the project (bevel facades) into the strength of the project was the most challenging and difficult part of the project design.
The project was completed on September 18,2021 in Tehran, Iran
In this area, in terms of rising land prices, most buildings have risen in price due to materials and side spaces, but middle-income groups still live in it. In this project, an attempt has been made to provide a more suitable building for the residents of the area by using cheap materials, removing side spaces and increasing the quality of architecture. Attempts have been made to create a semi-open space in the elevation and transfer part of the life of the residents to the elevation, life flows in the body of the city and the user of the space and the city interact.
Buildings with a modern name, due to the type plans, are often simple boxes with uniform and unidentified windows and terraces. In this project, by creating diversity in the elevation, the units have an independent identity and by connecting vertically in the elevation to each other, the neighborhood relationship is emphasized and together they define the identity of the building. Efforts have also been made to define the relationship between the building and the open city.
Buildings, as urban elements, have an inevitable impact on each other and the urban environment. Considering this effect, redefining the relationship between the building and the city was considered in the design process of this project. By creating visual dimension and depth, the elevation was transformed from a flat surface with an urban context into an in between space; In such a way that the elevation is a bed for the formation of different narratives of activities inside the building and life flows in the urban structure.
