Chaise Lounge for Charlotte Abrahamsson Kwetczer
Relax was created for a private client that wanted to achieve complete relaxation, a breathing space away from distressing everyday life. While the effort was placed on the function of the furniture, it would at the same time serve as an interior detail, therefore prominent emphasis was placed on stylistic properties. The chaise lounge was designed into a multifunctional piece of furniture with built-in book storage and spacious side tables all merged as one unit. Light details were contrasted with heavy and colors were combined to meet an atmosphere of complete tranquility.

The chaise lounge is designed to provide the user with maximum comfort while maintaining the architectural atmosphere of the living room. It is not only produced from a decorative purpose but also from a functional one. The furniture it is designed with integrated book storage and large sturdy armrests that function as two small side tables that can be used functionally or as a decorative surface. Every detail is carefully designed to create a calming existence.
Chaise Lounge, Sofa, Sofa with integrated storage, comfort, multifunctional furniture
The design was developed from a user-centered perspective where both stylistic and functional requirements were set. It is made of lacquered veneer to create a nice wooden surface without having to use excessive amounts of wood. The reason it was lacquered white was to create a piece of furniture conducive to a quiet sophisticated room that simultaneously meets the user's requirements.
The challenge of this project was to create a design that was well united with the customer's requirements for quality, design, and function. A design that at the same time would be harmonious with the character and era of the property and match well with the design character of the client's home.
The project started in August 2021 in Stockholm and finished in September the same year, it was placed in a private customer's apartment in Stockholm.
Imagine coming home after a long day at work. The feeling of autumn penetrates through the walls. You make your way into the living room, step up to the edge of the chaise longue and turn on the lamp that stands firmly on the armrest. You gently let the weight of your body move over the soft cushion, allowing yourself to be carried by the massive body of the chaise longue. You lean the head heavily against the pillow and gently reach to grab your favorite book from the integrated bookcase. Only now can you experience the feeling of complete relaxation.
The research method used was user-centered where the focus was the user's needs and requirements for the design. The objectives established during this project were to create a quiet place for the customer, design a piece of furniture that becomes a natural part of the room, and create a design with low cost. During the assignment, raw data was collected through interviews and meetings with the customer to ensure that all needs were determined, then different concepts were developed, they were compared with each other and then improved and resulted in the best solution that the customer approved
The design is inspired by the heaviness of everyday life and the constant search for shielding from reality. Relax is created with sturdy details in contrast to light slender ones. The heavy legs symbolize the weight we humans carry and the light seat surface symbolizes our need to allow ourselves to be carried and recharge energy.
