Bench for Minju Kang
Knotted bench was designed with the idea that furniture was needed in order to solve various social problems resulting from generational conflict, showing awareness of a society that hates society and showing an attitude of accepting diversity in life. Using various building materials necessary for the process of building a house, the scattered households are united as one with a bench. With the Knotted bench, imagine a society that recognizes and communicates diversity and difference toward generational coexistence.

The project started with a focus on a life where everyone can coexist, a sustainable environment and discarded materials. A form tied together like a ribbon was expressed, and the bench tied to cable ties and stain pipes by using waste wire ELP pipe that is no longer used can function as public furniture and serve as recycled furniture. It is useful in indoor and outdoor spaces where everyone gathers together, and has a shape that induces various postures.

Materials used were wire ELP conduit, cable ties, and stainless pipe. Structural stained steel pipes were fabricated as the legs of the bench. Then, the wire help pipe was tied with cable ties and tied back to the stainless steel pipe. It is a solid and stable structure. The complex structure looks neat and is unified in matte black
When bending and tying the pipe by hand, the pipe must not be wrinkled or deformed. It was necessary to make the pipes with a feeling of use clean so that they could function as furniture. The cable ties were fixed cleanly and completely so that the tied pipes would not come loose.
The project started in Gongju city, Korea in March 2022, completed in December 2022.
It is in the form of a ribbon tied together to show circulation. The material of the pipe gives the impression of a soft sofa. Each object is held together with cable ties, making it structurally sound.
Through this work, tried to recognize the generational conflict that has become an issue as a social problem and to recognize the positive direction of generational integration. Induced a way for everyone to sit on a bench completed with a single string and connect and communicate. Furniture embodies the aesthetic sense of generational integration
The starting point of this work began with an interest in intergenerational conflict and thoughts about the generation that is scattered in the rapid flow of social phenomena. Believe that life can be more sustainable than anything else when everyone is connected by embracing the diversity of life. In order to express the above form, it was produced in a connected form by tying a string. It was made into a knotted form.
