Stamp for Jisu Lee, Eunhye Lee, Taerim Bang
The project Moss aims to restore forests that have been ravaged by forest fires through the use of a Moss Stamp and a Moss Incubation Room for cultivating moss. This innovative solution allows individuals, such as volunteers and hikers, to actively engage in environmental conservation efforts by directly participating in the process of planting moss. By simply stamping the moss, participants can contribute to the creation of a sustainable world and help restore the natural ecosystem.

Maximum lifespan with Minimal actions The goal of the project ‘MOSS’ is to restore forests that have been devastated by forest fires. The product for restoration consists of a stamp that can plant moss and a Incubation room that can cultivate moss. Participants(volunteers, hikers) in this project can contribute to creating a sustainable world just by stamping moss.
Moss, Affordance, Spread, Life, Gyre
Moss has the property of preventing desertification by trapping fog and dew and retaining moisture in the soil. As a medium for tree root growth, it accelerates the recovery of forests destroyed by forest fires. The outlet of the stamp is a spiral design rather than a circle, reflecting the nature of moss to expand its territory. Incubation room is equipped with a system that injects moss spores and nutrient solutions into stamp and provides an optimal environment for moss to grow.
In planning the project, it was difficult in the process of completing a structure that discharges moss rather than liquid completely. We solved that problem by examining different types of moss and studying their molecular structures.
The project started in Seoul in March 2022 and was completed in Seoul in January 2023.
After finding a nearby Moss incubation room, the user selects a stamp to take through the screen in the Incubation room. Then, Take the selected stamp out of the Incubation room. After adjusting the length by pressing the button on the top of the stamp, stamp the moss. You can check the current amount of moss with the indicator light at the top of the 'Moss Stamp'. Finally, the mountain that turned into a wasteland changes into an environment where life can live.
This project proposes a solution to restore damaged mountains through an intuitive moss stamp and incubation room. People are put into the forest fire restoration project ‘MOSS’, directly creating a healthy mountain. We believe that ‘MOSS’ can also save countless lands damaged by rapid industrialization. By participating in the project, people can feel the seriousness of environmental pollution, see the earth changing due to their actions, and realize the importance of a sustainable world.
Forest fires have a larger damage area than any other disaster, so it takes a lot of time to recover. We conducted research on how to quickly restore the devastated nature, and finally selected moss as a key material. In addition, in the process of distributing moss on damaged mountains, we tried to suggest a way for humans to directly restore nature. Taking a motif from the behavior of mountain climbers, we would like to suggest a method of stamping moss on the ground.
