Interior, Inns, Renovation, Branding, Folding, Weaving
The ceiling is higher than the ceiling height of a typical hotel room, so you can get a sense of openness. You can see the river even in the bathroom, which makes it more comfortable. The restaurant's concept, name, and space design match each other, giving a deep sense of the region.
All the furniture was also made to order to enhance the originality of the project. However, since architecture is made on site and furniture is made in a factory, the dimensions of the furniture were carefully adjusted. Such attention was paid to such details because of their simplicity.
The project began in August 2021 and was completed in January 2023. The inn reopened on February 15, 2023.
In the design process, we proposed naming the hotel and restaurant together. By naming the hotel and restaurant after the area where the ryokan is located, we were able to create an originality that could only be found here, and by designing the interior in an integrated manner, we were able to combine the verbal and visual images to create an overall branding. We were able to create a different impression than before.
With the spread of COVID-19 in 2019, the demand for banquet halls has disappeared. Therefore, the owner wondered if the banquet hall could be renovated as guest rooms. Taking advantage of the high ceilings, they decided on an original plan that could not be realized on any other guest room floor. Both the living room and bathroom were placed near the window so that they could look out on the river flowing in front of them, creating a new, unprecedented Japanese modern guest room.
