This work is an immersive spatial experience video installation created around the theme of "weightlessness" through the combination of images, sound, and materials. By using common urban elements such as scaffolding, plants, and architecture, the work presents a miniature urban landscape, allowing viewers to freely navigate the "installation" and reflect on the impact of rapid urban development on the environment and humanity from different perspectives.
Immersive Experience, Spatial installation, residential building, City, Ecology
This work uses drones to capture aerial footage of high-rise residential buildings, simulating the feeling of falling for the audience. The main structure of the installation is built using scaffolding, with simulated plants placed in the gaps to recreate the urban landscape. Additionally, the sound played on site is composed of mechanical noise and heartbeat sounds, contributing to a complete presentation of urban elements.
Everyone is experiencing different stories in their respective cities. The biggest challenge is how to make the work resonate with each audience. The reason for selecting high-rise residential buildings as the main visual element of the work is that, as the most important pillar industry in China's rapid development process, it deeply affects everyone and every family. Through representative images and scenes, combined with each audience's own experiences, the audience can have different understandings of the work.
The project started in December 2022 and finished with installation in Wuhan, China in January 2023
The work is divided into two parts: the internal space and the external space. From the outside of the installation, there is a constantly growing "building" scene. Inside the installation, the audience is enveloped by rising "building" images and simulated "plants," creating a sense of falling. The installation emits a low and hollow mechanical roar, accompanied by the faint heartbeat of humans. This work provides an immersive exhibition experience for the audience through a multi-sensory presentation.
The work revolves around the concept of "weightlessness" and creates a complex, participatory spatial experience image installation that integrates various factors such as devices, architecture, images, and theaters. The work "Weightlessness" is a metaphor for modern urban life, ecological environment, and people's feelings and states in real life. The work attempts to explore with the audience ways for humans, cities, and ecology to coexist harmoniously and find new paths for green and sustainable urban development.
This work is inspired by "weightlessness". "Weightlessness" is originally a physical concept, and the work wants to express people's inner "weightlessness" in the city, that is, people are "lost" in the city. The works allow the audience to feel a state of "weightlessness" during the visit and reflect on their own situation and confusion in urban life.
