Villa for QiaoXi Space Design
The 20 years old and outdated villa came alive after being designed and renovated by the designer. The designer only used black, natural white, and grey to renovate the villa, and he tried to create an interior space by minimizing decoration as little as possible. The cement pillars, the trees outside the backyard, and the light are not changed. The designer just changed the structure by switching the stairs from right to left, so spaces have been increased on each floor. The design language is orderly, organized, aesthetic, and intrinsic.

Some people said the villa is still in renovation and looked so worn out, and some said it was so good and so different from the villa in China. Wabisabi is not just old, and simplism is not just simple. The villa is designed by his years of experiences and personal willing without any other distractiing thoughts. The methods of design is harmonious, clean, and graceful. It's a pure living space in tidy design figures with cozy, classical, and pioneer decorations. Because of years of expriences, this design has been done with not only goodlooking but also with satisfication of daily life needs.
Villa Design, Concrete, Varnish, Natural Elements, Residential Design
In this project, he remodeled some internal structures, sealed the internal patios, and increased the area of each floor. The location of the original stairs was removed, and the stairs of different floors were redesigned. At the same time, concrete and varnish are used, and the columns of the original civil construction are retained. These are the reflections of childhood and the existence of the essence of the object.
Under the circumstance of Covid-19, how to finish the villa decoration in 16 months and move in? The most challenging work. He and his team solved the waterproof risk of the basement by fulfilling it with soils and cement, and built a sturdy wall between the neighbor and the villa. The whole sturcture has been changed because of the stairs, so it's a very big construction. They finished the architecture part in only 3 month and then started interior hard decotion. The other challenge I'd like mention is the spiral stairs production. They ues 3D technology to design proper scale and shape, and the factory take responsibilty of produce it. It's so hard to install in the villa because the painting procedure is so complicated. After 5 to 6 times of painting, the spiral stairs finally finished in good shape and color. They worked on site from day to night.
The project started in Chengdu, Sichuan, China in June 2021 and was completed in October 2022.
1. He cut the outside stairs and create a new entrance so the car park area increaded 2 times. 2. If the direction of inside staris doesn't change from the east to the west, there wouldn't be enough spaces for storage. 3. Spiral stairs gave much more spaces to the kitchen and dinning room. Kitchen and dinning becomes more and more important to each family. Communication and collaboration happened here. 4. The change of the structure changed the light. 5. The change of the structure and the painting color affect mood, view, and feelings. 6. Black, white, and cement are the most beautiful color in his mind. It will never be outdated. 7. The original cement collides with new elements creates sparks.
He designed a few personal properties all around China. Gathered lots of demands from his clients, he found it’s so important to arrange the structure so that the family can make the most effective use of storage. However, he doesn’t think enough storage places make a tidy home. So, he tries his best to design clear generatrix to make a simple living style, which can be also called sequence.
1. After years of disigning for clients, the designer has been thinking what kind of interior design would he focus on. His family and himself spent months to look for a residential house to live in, and finally they found it. It's an old residential villa founded in 2003. It's easy to find a few old cement bearing pillar with rough texture standing in the middle of the villa, and those are so differnet from other materials. It reminds him of the childhood that his generation have. More than twenty years ago, people in his country are all live in houses or apartments that contains of cement. However, people start to chase for art deco and complicated figures which he doesn't prefer. 2. In his past 12 years of design, he insisted on simplism and internalism. Also, a few famous space designers always inspire him by their works and books, such as Le Corbusier and Carlo Scarpa. Sometimes, he doesn't inspried by particular things but by what's always in his heart.
