Sophisticated Ergonomics: The backrest with a specifically curved design for lumbar support stands out for providing anatomical support, offering exceptional comfort to the user. 5-axis machining allows millimeter precision in creating this curvature, uniquely adapting to the body's structure. Sculptural Arm Design: Solid wood arms with a curved spiral design not only lend visually stunning aesthetics but also add an artistic dimension to the chair. 5-axis machining enables the creation of this intricate pattern, showcasing the fusion of advanced technology and creative design. Integration of False Tenons: The choice to conceal screws through false tenons demonstrates meticulous care for the product's aesthetics. This technique not only provides a clean and sophisticated appearance but also highlights the technical skill and attention to detail of the manufacturers. Blend of Stability and Beauty: The combination of 5-axis machining, ergonomic design, and sculpted arms creates a unique synergy between structural stability and aesthetic appeal. The chair is not just functional, but also a standout piece that attracts attention for its elegance and sophistication.

The project began with meticulous focus on ergonomics, particularly lumbar comfort. The backrest was the first piece developed, utilizing advanced 3D modeling technology to optimize curvature. Inspired by the rich tradition of Brazilian carpentry, each subsequent element was strategically added, maintaining the vision of a product entirely crafted from solid tauari wood, known for its durability and natural beauty. Choosing tauari wood not only respects local tradition but also contributes to sustainability as it comes from reforestation. The design process incorporated feedback from experienced carpenters, honoring craftsmanship and ensuring technical feasibility. The final phase of the project centered on creating the arms. The use of 5-axis machines allowed for precise execution of the spiral design, adding a unique artistic dimension to the chair. Final touches were done by hand, ensuring a crafted and refined finish, highlighting attention to detail and the quality of the end product. The result is the Zéh chair, an elegant synthesis of tradition, innovation, and craftsmanship.
The creative challenge in developing the Zéh chair was intricate, involving the blend of a minimalist design with intricate details. Internally, the historical perspective of Brazilian carpentry mandated honoring traditions, while the social perspective required a contemporary approach to meet modern preferences. Obstacles included incorporating 5-axis machining technology into a minimalist product. Laws and ergonomic safety regulations were crucial challenges, demanding a meticulous approach to ensure comfort without compromising the clean design. The challenge was overcoming the intricacy of rich details within a minimalist aesthetic, integrating technology, tradition, and comfort. Coordinating internal and external factors was essential, demanding flexibility to navigate changes in technological, regulatory, and market landscapes. The result was overcoming these challenges to create the Zéh chair, an elegant balance between simplicity and sophistication.
It started in January 2023 and is being concluded in September 2023, in Medianeira, Paraná - Brazil
The automation of the Zéh chair process was strategically designed for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The design was conceived so that the seat, backrest, sides, and rear leg were identical in both the version with arms and without arms. The variation between versions occurs only in the front leg and arm, optimizing production and resulting in a more favorable cost-benefit ratio. This smart approach not only simplifies the production line but also reduces logistical complexity. The use of standardized components facilitates inventory management and streamlines the assembly process, contributing to an efficient and cost-effective production of the Zéh chair.
Research Type: The research for the Zé chair involved a mixed approach, combining exploratory and applied research. The exploratory part aimed to understand Brazilian carpentry traditions, while the applied research focused on developing an innovative and aesthetically appealing chair. Research Objectives: Objectives included understanding ergonomics, carpentry traditions, and integrating 5-axis machining technology. The aim was also to optimize the manufacturing process for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Methodology: A qualitative research approach was used to understand tradition and aesthetics, while quantitative research was employed to measure the effectiveness of ergonomics and production efficiency. Data Collection and Research Tools: Interviews with local carpenters, literature review on furniture design, and market research were conducted. Tools included 3D modeling and ergonomic analysis software, as well as cost and efficiency analyses. Participants or Experiments: Collaboration with local carpenters and ergonomics experts was crucial. Prototypes were tested to assess comfort and functionality. Results: Results included an innovative design, successful integration of technology and tradition, and optimization of the production process. Insights and Impacts: The research provided insights into the fusion of tradition and innovation. The impact is reflected in the creation of an aesthetically appealing, ergonomically effective, and economically viable product. Effect of Research on Real-life Phenomena: The Zé chair has positively impacted the furniture industry, combining tradition and technology. It has also influenced the perception of how carpentry can adapt to contemporary demands, standing as a successful example in Brazilian furniture design.
The "Zéh" line is an authentic expression of excellence in Brazilian carpentry, elevating design and quality to a superior level. Inspired by the rich woodworking tradition often personified by the name "Ze" in Brazil, this line pays homage to the craftsmanship and dedication to quality embodied by many talented carpenters carrying the name José. Each piece is carefully designed to offer a clean and sophisticated aesthetic, allowing the quality of carpentry and the texture of the wood to take center stage. The 5-axis machining technology is applied masterfully to carve and shape each wooden piece. Technical precision combines with artisanal sensitivity, resulting in furniture that not only visually impresses but also serves as a testament to the skill and expertise of the carpenters involved in production.
