Lighting Design for Illuminating Asia SG

The lighting concept seeks to create an emotional sense of peace within the residents, as they return home after a hectic day. The lighting aims to reflect the modern minimalist luxury architecture and build materials applied. The design anchors itself on the swimming pool and extends outwards to the environment. Using minimal lighting points, the space is artfully lit for just the right level of brightness, where one may appreciate the flowing water and trees in the calm evening breeze. The lighting design seeks to touch the inner most of a person, healing of the soul starts from within.

Production Technology

Against the hectic lifestyle in Singapore, our lighting design creates the peace and tranquillity in a person as they enter the concierge. First lighting layer is a soft warm glow on the coconut trees canopy. Second layer is the warm glow reflected on the gently moving pool surface from the facade wall. Third layer is the lower lux level of the surrounding. The subtle illumination on the slow and soft movement of nature makes a person wants to immerse in it, appreciating the positive energy.

Design Challenge

One key innovation is the ability to determine methods that enable the light fitting to blend into the space. One example is prescribing the electroplating method of having exposed lamp housing coated in gold brass threaded finishing. It fits into the light brown sand blasted floor tiles, yet retaining its subtle presence for safety and subtle colour contrast to the space. Lighting design is about how everything comes together from lamp, performance and appreciating the architectural elements.

Project Duration

Duration is approximately 4.5 years, and is located in Singapore, Dalvey Road and Stevens Road intersection.

Operation Flow

Each recommended light fitting and its installation steps are thought out and documented in a detailed method of statement. This provides clarity for the essentials at the start of construction and engineering planning that caters for ease of future maintenance. This includes a clear guide on electrical processes related to lighting installation, e.g the use of male female coupler for light fittings, the location of remote drivers to power up the outdoor lamps and more.

Research

There are 2 main elements within the space that felt like an Oasis. One is the artificial sand coloured hard stone tile finishing. Two is the natural coconut trees and water. The lighting design aims to create a real sense of calm that is reflective of the evening sundown moment of an oasis or a seaside resort. Proposed artificial lighting takes a quiet backseat role during sunset and transit into the primary glow of warmth for the space at night. This follows the soft natural lighting cycle.

Inspiration

Lighting up a place is easy. There is a clear physical target. Lighting up a person after a long day is another level altogether. The lighting design we create seeks to touch the inner most of a person and light it up for them to see themselves. Our solution aims to allow one to regain yourself, feel the space reconnect with nature. The healing of the soul starts with lighting it up. We aspire to light up a real space by lighting the heart of a person first. That is achieved in Dalvey Haus.
