Alov Incense Holder marries traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. intricate lattice designs, meticulously crafted using CAD software like rhino and ntopology, optimize incense fume diffusion. rach lattice segment is strategically engineered to temper rising smoke, slowing its ascent and enabling wider dispersion. metal 3D printing ensures precise replication of these intricate lattice structures, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality.
the most formidable aspect of this design endeavor lay in reconciling intricate aesthetics with functional efficacy. crafting the lattice structure to optimize incense diffusion presented a creative conundrum, demanding meticulous balance between artistry and engineering. obstacles included navigating production constraints, such as the limitations of metal 3d printing, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. historical references and social perspectives informed design decisions, while technological advancements enabled innovative solutions. despite these challenges, perseverance prevailed, culminating in the realization of the alov incense holder, a testament to the power of creative problem-solving.
The project started at September 2023 and finished at February of 2024 in Ankara, Türkiye.
The intricately latticed incense holder is placed on a flat surface. incense is inserted into the hollow top portion and lit, allowing smoke to rise up through the lattice structure. as the smoke passes through the lattice, it is cooled and diffuses in a captivating radial pattern. the stabilizing base and locking mechanism ensure the structure remains securely upright if accidentally disturbed, preventing spills and potential fire hazards. the cooled, dispersed smoke provides an enhanced meditative aromatherapy experience.
type of research: exploratory design research aimed to revolutionize conventional incense holder designs. research objectives: to unearth shortcomings in existing incense holder models and pioneer a safer, more functional alternative, elevating user experience. methodology: a multi-faceted approach encompassing a comprehensive literature review, meticulous market analysis, and immersive design exploration. data collection and research tools used: data acquisition entailed extensive online research, hands-on product analysis, and drawing inspiration from nature's organic forms and architectural masterpieces. cad software like rhino and ntopology facilitated intricate design exploration. participants or experiments: the research involved no specific participants; data were derived from a synthesis of existing product evaluations, architectural references, and natural morphology analyses. results: the research unearthed prevalent safety and usability concerns in existing designs, igniting a quest for innovation. the culmination was the conception of an intricate lattice structure meticulously engineered to optimize incense fume diffusion, thereby enhancing the user experience manifold. insights and impacts: the insights gleaned from the research paved the way for the development of the alov incense holder, a groundbreaking fusion of safety, functionality, and aesthetics. the resultant impact transcends the realm of mere product innovation, extending to safer incense usage practices and heightened ambiance in spaces where the holder graces, thereby contributing to overall well-being and fostering innovation in incense accessory design.
the designer was initially inspired by the shortcomings of existing incense holder models, which lacked sufficient safety measures and allowed ash residue to create messes. seeking an ideal holder for their desk, the designer found inspiration in: -the intricate patterns and morphology of the morchella esculenta mushroom -the ornate architectural details of the 13th century aslanhane mosque in ankara, designed by architect ebubekir mehmet -central asian door patterns additionally, research into the psychological benefits of incense in promoting positive energy and stress relief motivated enhancing the incense experience through visual design elements. studying the mechanics of rising incense smoke, the designer aimed to temper the smoke's temperature to slow its ascent and disperse it more widely. this goal of facilitating cooled smoke diffusion became a key driver in crafting the form. the versatility of 3d printing to iterate prototypes and enable mass production with various materials aligned with the intricacy of the envisioned design. overall, the inspiration centered on creating a beautiful yet functional incense holder that would not only grace the designer's desk but also provide a safe, mess-free, and rich sensory experience through cooled and dispersed smoke. architectural patterns, mushroom morphology, production viability, and the mind-body benefits of incense converged to shape the vision.
