Unique Properties

The interior design of Aristo Mansion, committed to promoting the exchange of traditional Chinese culture, distinguishes itself from the conventional neo-Chinese design style. The project exhibits beams and columns, which are integral load-bearing structures in traditional Chinese architecture, as part of the interior design. This not only embodies the structural aesthetics of Chinese architecture but also ensures the utility of the space. Additionally, it accents the harmonious integration of the functionality of the structure with its ornamental aspects.

Production Technology

To restore the original beam and column structure interiorly, the project reuses components. The column bases are intricately carved using Huizhou stone carving techniques, symbolizing the alternating of four seasons represented by Plum, Orchid, Bamboo, and Chrysanthemum. The desktop crafted from transparent acrylic panels delivers a visually appealing experience where modern and traditional spaces reflect and complement each other.

Design Challenge

Making an accurate trade-off between modernity and tradition, and achieving a harmonious coexistence without conflict, poses a great challenge in the field of design. The minimalist long table and its accompanying cushions seamlessly integrate modern elements. The minimalist design language not only reconciles with modern aesthetics, but also upholds the continuity of blending to the traditional environment without surprise.

Project Duration

At the entrance of the architectural space, the hanging wall structure, a sort of suspended partition, only unveils a rocky landscape and atomized water beneath the suspended interface. Actually a pine tree is concealed behind this hanging wall which holds great significance in Chinese culture as a symbol of perseverance, nobility and non-corruption. Through the clever installation of this pine tree, it metaphorically embodies the traditional Chinese virtue of a "gentleman" characterized by modesty and reservation.

Operation Flow

The project kicked off on March 2021 in Xuhui District, Shanghai, and is scheduled to be finalized and put into operation by September 2021.

The minimalist design language not only reconciles with modern aesthetics, but also upholds the continuity of blending to the traditional environment without surprise.

Inspiration

The project is inspired from the essence of ancient architecture in the Jiangnan region of China, particularly the architectural style of Huizhou. This style has drastically influenced the conceptualization of the project. The design team extensively studied the core components of Huizhou architecture, such as column bases and wax gourd beams, along with other iconic structural elements. This enables them to link traditional with modern design contexts.
