Ring for Tippy Taste Jewelry
Upon visiting a rose garden in her dreams, Tippy came upon a wishing well surrounded by roses. There, she looked into the well and saw the reflection of the night stars, and made a wish. The night stars are represented by the diamonds, and the ruby symbolizes her deepest passion, dreams, and hopes that she made at the wishing well. This design features a custom rose cut, hexagon ruby claw set in 14K solid gold. Little leaves are carved to show the texture of natural leaves. The ring band supports the flat top, and curves inward slightly. Ring sizes have to be mathematically calculated.

Unique Properties
This design features a custom rose cut, hexagon ruby. It is claw set in 14 K solid gold. Little leaves are carved into the wax to show the natural texture of natural leaves. The ring band supports the flat top, and curves inward slightly. Ring size is not measurable by mandrel but have to be mathematically calculated due to its unique structure.

Production Technology
Selected width and thickness of the ring was designed in CAD, 3D printed and casted in 14K solid gold. The texture on the leaves were carved after 3D printing to give a more organic feel. As the shape of the center stone cannot be found on the market, the ruby was custom cut into rose cut hexagon shape. Unlike a standard ring, this ring shank cannot be measured by a mandrill because of its unique structure. A mathematical formula has to be used to find the exact ring size.
Design Challenge
To form this ring, certain aspect was considered. How do I make this ring sculptural and also wearable for daily wear? There were a couple of challengers. 1) Multiple technical drawings were made and CAD attempts in order to make this feasible. First attempt the shank was made too wide causing it to disrupt the overall aesthetic. 2) The dimension of the frame was also too big which made it very uncomfortable to wear. So I shrink the frame smaller to 20mmx20mm which is suitable and comfortable to be worn on the finger. 3) The ring shank was then made to a round shank with both sides slightly curving inward to prevent it from sliding off the finger. 4) I couldn't find the shape of the main stone on the market so it had to be custom cut in order to fit.
Project Duration
The project started in Jan 2019 in New York and finished in May 2019.
Operation Flow
The curve design and comfort fit of this ring allows the wearer to wear this ring comfortably and not obstruct them from daily activities. Usually sharp edges from rings are said to caught on clothing, therefore I ensured to have the leaves sit slightly lower in the circle frame, to avoid getting caught on fabrics. The ring is light weight which makes a beautiful evening cocktail piece as well.

This ring was inspired by a wishing well in my dreams. Trial and error was performed in order to make the ring into a reality and also wearable.

This ring design was inspired by a wishing well in my dreams. Wishing well is thought to grant any spoken wish. Upon visiting a rose garden in my dreams in the middle of the night, I came upon a wishing well surrounded by roses. There I look into the well and saw the reflection of the night stars, and made a wish. These are represented by the diamonds in the piece, and the ruby that symbolizes my deepest passion, dreams, and hopes that I gave to the wishing well that night in my dreams.
