Pure App is designed for plogging – a new eco-friendly trend that combines fitness and cleaning. It guides people with all the detail in plogging such as route, trash can location, distance, speed and energy. It tracks every picking of litters into points which allows people to easily compare and share with friends. In Pure, online team plogging is also supported to bring people together for group competition to stay motivated. Pure also includes features of Healthy Lifestyle with tasks and environmental quizzes and Eco-Mall for exploring green products.

Plogging, a combination of jogging and picking up litter, starts to become the new eco-friendly fitness trend. Pure App is designed that coaches your plogging, and bring your friends along for the ride. It includes main features of Individual Plogging, Team Plogging, Field Activities, Healthy lifestyle, Online eco-Mall, and User Profile.

Production Technology

In the conception phase, we conducted situational interview, brainstorming, mind mapping, think aloud, etc. In the design phase, we used Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe Experience Design.

Design Challenge

The biggest challenge is to explore the feasibility of the App as there is little similar product in the market. We conducted 20 deep contextual interviews and analyses to acquire user needs among target users. In addition, we adopted user experience evaluations to further demonstrate the feasibility on the high fidelity prototype.

Project Duration

The project started in October 2019 and finished in February 2020 in Shenzhen.

Operation Flow

Pure App can guide user's plogging with all the detail – route, trash can location, distance, speed and calories. It can track every picking up and suggest the right litter type for sorting. Plogging scores are defined in this App to let users easily compare and compete with friends to see where they stand. Online team plogging is also supported in this App.

Research

In the needs acquisition phase, extensive user interviews among target users are conducted to identify user needs. In the needs analysis phase, Flow Model, Work Activity Affinity Diagram, Hierarchical Task Inventory, Step-by-step Task Interaction Model are constructed to present the relationships among tasks and interactions. In the design phase, brainstorming, story-telling, wire-framing are used to express the design in low fidelity. Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe Experience Design are used to build the high-fidelity prototype. In the evaluation phase, user experience evaluation is adopted to explore the feasibility of the design.

Inspiration

Protecting the environment is everyone's responsibility. With so many plastic bottles, cartons, plastic bags and other rubbish on the streets of many cities, plogging could help us solve the problem. Picking up litter while running not only strengthens our body, but also beautifies the environment. I've been involved in plogging. It was fun and I hope more people could get involved.
