Sculpture Symbolizing for TIST
Ushering in the commercialization of 5G service, Designtist installed sculptures that embodied KT 5G technology in collaboration with the pop art designer duo Craig & Karl. The main features of 5G service (ultra-high speed, ultra-low latency, hyper connectivity) were shaped into dynamic design, vivid colors and patterns. 5G technology connecting the world was modernly reinterpreted with drones and autonomous driving, and various arrow images expressed the connectivity, speed, and data flow.

5G, Craig and Karl, Outdoor sculpture
Since sculptures over 3m high had to be organically combined, it was manufactured by bending and welding the steel plates. Huge efforts and time were required to mask the changing parts of each color. While the structure itself was simple, we did our best to express the unique form of the sculpture.
It was a new challenge to produce a service that had not been commercialized yet and unfamiliar to the public as a design sculpture. We studied KT's 5G service and designed scenes to effectively show the service. We chose the method to reconstruct and redesign the scenes that we directed with the artist duo Craig & Karl by using their expression style for the customer-friendly expression.
Oct 2018 ~ Present, Outside of KT head office located in Gwanghwamun, Korea
In order to effectively express KT's 5G service with sculptures that were going to stand at the center of Seoul, South Korea, we have collaborated with the artist duo Craig and Karl. Based on the artists’ expression style, the main features of the service were directed, and embodied in the unique form of the artists. Since sculptures were installed on a moving route of many citizens, small sculptures played the role of benches, and next to each sculpture a POP describing the meaning of the service was placed together. The public could easily understand KT's 5G service in an artistic resting space.
In line with the commercialization period of 5G service, an iconic production was planned. We decided to collaborate with Craig and Karl, the duo who has a public profile, for designing diagrams of difficult communication services and drawing public appeal. Except for the technical aspects of each service, the real-life areas familiar to the customers were mainly expressed, and the arrows and lines were mostly used to express flow and speed visually.
We paid attention to the characteristics of the duo’s style of expression. We were inspired by the images they created, and wanted to express them to describe 5G services clearly.
