Concrete Jewelry for CELSIUS 273

Concrete jewelry collection inspired by Soviet apartment buildings where the majority population still lives. This design aim was to create clearly recognizable Eastern European house motif as an iconic symbol of individuality and commonality illusion that would be applied to the jewelry and create an aesthetic, unexpected image of the architecture of the Eastern European buildings in jewelry design objects. This collection will provide a new perspective on the Soviet architectural heritage and uniqueness in a global context.

Unique Properties

This design is wearable architecture. Concrete material and brutalist design with the story behind makes these accessories more than wearable - it's an educational, fashionable manifesto about architectural heritage and society.

Production Technology

I chose concrete material - light, non-allergenic, and less fragile to create an ode of a brutalist dystopia. First of all, I designed 3d drawings, made prototypes, and then, started to create molds for concrete details with silicon. When the concrete pieces were finished, I started metalworking with silver and leather materials.

Design Challenge

To find a form, which would be understandable, that it's blockhouse jewelry, but minimalist, aesthetic and impressive.

Project Duration

This project started as an idea 2018 but I finished this collection 2020.

Operation Flow

Wearable jewelry made of concrete. Light, strong, and non - allergic material make jewelry more comfortable and wearable. This technology and design give a chance to wear architecture in real form and material as a piece of jewelry.

Research

I made monitoring of the architecture and society attitude of Eastern European houses. My objective was to find a way, how to talk about post-Soviet society and Eastern European architecture heritage in fashion accessories. The main point is to start a discussion with locals' minds about this unique architecture and spread this wearable message. In this collection, I question people’s attitudes towards Soviet heritage and invite you to take a fresh look at Soviet architecture and society's illusions.

Inspiration

The collection was inspired by Eastern European panel blockhouses as an iconic modern community symbol. Shapes of panel buildings and us - people, who live in individuality fiction, because the truth is that only a few centimeters between the walls separate us and our individuality is just fiction in this world.
