Faucet for Satyakam & Himanshu
The name TipTip resonates the sound of water droplets signifying the importance of every drop by comparing it with the fuel in a scooter. As the consumption of fresh water increases worldwide it is expected that two thirds of the world population could be facing scarcity by as early as 2025 and TipTip is a playful design of a scooter-shaped faucet that nurtures water saving behavior among children. It makes children more conscious of consumption in a playful way while using for washing cleaning and brushing so that it can set up habits for life.

An instructive message Drive Your Water Slow appears on the display screen before the faucet is turned ON and water flow meter which identify the amount of water consume. Once the faucet is turned ON a 100 along with a blue circular percentage indicator appears on the headlight display which indicates that the fuel tank is full. If the user turns OFF the faucet between 100–50 it indicates that the consumption is below the average limits. This results in a positive feedback on the display in the form of a smiling face with a thumbs-up Emoji, which signifies that the child is riding his scooter efficiently. If the user turns OFF the faucet between 50-10 it indicates that the water consumption is around the average limits. This results in a neutral face of Emoji which signifies scope for more efficient usage of fuel (water). If the user turns OFF the faucet at 0 it indicates that the water consumption exceeds the average limit and that the scooter has run out of fuel. This would result in a sad face Emoji displayed on the screen indicating that the user needs to use fuel (water) more efficiently.
The main challenge throughout the design and research process was to understand the mindset and perspective of a child user and to find a playful way of nurturing water saving habits and behaviour which can set up habits for life.
The concept design of the TipTip started in Jan 2021 and was finalized in Feb 2021.
The steering handle of the scooter works as the knob of the faucet. When the user turns it on the status of water flow consumption is indicated on the headlight through a responsive circular percentage indicator. This glowing blue circular indicator resembles fuel in the scooter. As the water discharges from the faucet the fuel of the scooter starts draining out. This drainage is visible to the user through the reducing circular indicator and the percentage. Once the child user turns the knob off he gets a feedback on his water usage on the display. If the consumption of the water is below the average limits the child gets a positive feedback on the display in the form of a smiling face with a thumbs-up Emoji. This indicates that the child is riding his scooter efficiently. Whereas, if the water consumption is around the average limits a neutral face of Emoji is displayed which signifies scope for improvement. Finally if the water consumption exceeds the average limit it would signify that the scooter has run out of fuel which would result in a sad face of Emoji displayed on the screen.
Research on global water scarcity trends indicate that by 2025, 1.8 billion people will experience absolute water scarcity and 2/3 of the world will be living under water stressed conditions. By 2030 almost half the world will live under conditions of high water stress. One of the main reasons contributing to water scarcity is the increase in consumption in domestic sector. The fundamental measure to realize sustainable development is to recognize this issue of water scarcity to implement water saving system and to promote high efficient use of water. It requires us to develop more conscious water usage behaviour early in the childhood so that it can set up habits for life.
As the consumption of fresh water increases worldwide it is expected that two thirds of the world population may face severe shortage of water by the year 2025.To overcome this challenge we need to minimize the consumption at all levels including household and the best way would be to develop more conscious water usage behaviour early in the childhood so that it can set up habits for life.
